Re: CT20b vs T3 - Talk to me
what is your setup? if it is a stock rev1, then a ct20b is going to be the right upgrade especially on stock ecu, could do rev3 ecu swap with sensors to make the most if you are on a budget. t3/t4 or other aftermarket turbo is going to need ecu mapping. run the ct20b for a bit while you gather parts...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Forged internals... (WARNING huge post!!)
What you are intending on doing is not the norm and i like/respect that.
however this means it is not as easy to get hold of performance parts-forged pistons, rods etc
as they are not likely to be off the shelf items.
(this means custom items with high prices)

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Forged internals... (WARNING huge post!!)
nothing to do with the forging karl its because lowering compression ratio lowers power/torque.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Forged internals... (WARNING huge post!!)
certainly easier with a supercharger as trd and others have done it with the 3MZ so no unexpected problems to overcome (i.e. the breather system with turbo+high boost) shopping list would include: forged pistons and rods arp head bolts, mls headgasket supercharger kit engine management+wiring includ...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Forged internals... (WARNING huge post!!)
i would look into the crankcase ventilation/ breather system on the engine if i was going to be turbocharging it as i suspect you may have problems with blowby bullding up in the crankcase.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Forged internals... (WARNING huge post!!)
it has iron sleeves from factory. karl there is a bit of nonsense in your post. no offence you dont need 'ali' parts as you put it. decide if you want to turbo as you will want lower compression pistons to run more boost. forged parts are stronger if you want to simplify it. also the stock crank is ...

(or it will be put up forsale when ready in a month or two) Black 98/99 rev5 tbar. fresh built bottom end with cp pistons, cl...

Re: Where have all the Turbos gone?
There are also some advantages to doing a swap :) engine is out so can very easily perform timing belt change/ tensioner etc install new water pump or any other servicing or even swap in a fresh clutch plate. ps. ive got a standard st205 engine in leeds, or forged rev4 engine, or also building a for...

Re: Where have all the Turbos gone?
Whats your shell like? It might be possible to swap a turbo engine in and not be much difference in price?

Re: hubs
yea sorry wot i said before was correct.
the abs knuckle/ (carrier sub assembly) is the same but in order to use one from the N/A you would need to press out the bearing and replace it with a NEW one for the turbo with the larger hole

spline is different on the NA hub bearing/ shaft so you can not just swap used na hubs onto turbo shafts/car

It fits as long as you use the rev4 onwards upper sump pan.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] oil pump upgrade in n/a rev3 3sge
dry sump is better but expensive.
best stock pump is the blacktop beams redline is 7800 stock.
inside is different to red top
blacktop pump specs:
95 psi @ 9000 RPM and 102 @ 9400
the blacktop rev counter goes red from 7-10k rpm. yep its got 10Krpm on the tacho.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] oil pump upgrade in n/a rev3 3sge
blacktop beams oil pump with later revision sump is best for high revs.
the rev4 3sgte pump is the same as the redtop beams pump and is also higher volume than the rev3 pump,
but the blacktop beams is a higher volume pump still by about 10%

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Starting build
new oil pump sprocket with bearing inside to stop pump operating
(using original pump gear machined to accept idler bearing presumably)
