Presurised tank

Every time I go to fill up there seems to be pressure or a vacume building up in my petrol tank. As sson as I tank off the filler cap I gat a loud hssing nois as if either air is rushing in or out of the filler cap. I assume there should be a breather for the tank some where and this must be blocked...

Re: what MPG do you get out of your MK1?

Get over 300 miles to a tank commuting back and forth to work, mixture of town and A road driving.

Your MPG depends on how you drive the car, lots of right foot and your in the 20's less right foot and you can stay in high to mid 30's

Ignore the main price as it is for both sides and sills, the text has his prices for each bit

Re: Rear corner repair

IIRC - The guy selling the repair panels for the front of the rear arches does the arch & the rear of the back arch as well.

You may be able to bsah the panne back to the right shape, once you have the ariel and air ducting out there is enough space to get a hammer in and swing it a bit.

Re: Rear corner repair

That repair panel only does the bottom corner, it does not go up as far as your damage.

Don't bother paying the £33 as you can get the same panels off e-bay for near enough the same price.

Re: Caravan pulling?

I thought vehicles needed to be type approved to tow. Not aware of the MK1 being type approved as a tow vehicle by toyota.

Personally I would not tow a caravan with anything less than a large 4x4. 2.5 tonnes pulling 1 tonne much safer then 1.25 tomes pulling 1 tonne

Re: MOT Emissions Failure

Darren If the car has been laid up your fuel will have gone off and will cause the emissions to go way out. Get the old fuel out the tank and put some new fuel in the tank Had a similar problem a few years ago with my lotus. Fresh tank of fuel and it passed the emissions test with no other changes A...

Re: Close Ratio Gear box

Thanks for the info. As long as the cost is below £1000 then that will not cause too much of a problem. I will let yo know what solution we go with as it is going to end up in a rally car

Close Ratio Gear box

Hi

Is there a gearbox with closer ratios than the standard MK1 B gear box which I can bolt straight into my car?

Re: screech from engine

Sorted the problem. :D It may not be the best think i could have done to a 22 year old engine, but I put an engine additive into the oil and after 30 miles the screech or rattle went away and has not come bak in the last 150 miles. My guess it was a bearing or cam noise

Re: screech from engine

Hi

Hoping not to have o take the cams off (Again). 10nm is the correct torque setting for the caps

The noise occurs whilst under load ( Driving ) and when static (reving the engine by hand or with the pedal). I will see what the feeler guages tell me

Re: screech from engine

Hi Thanks, should have mentioned, the cambelt was done in february and a new tensioner was put on then. I did consider a clutch problem, but the noise does not change with pressure on the clutch, it is only occuring on startup and between 2000-2500 rpm. Unless someone can suggest something between n...

Re: screech from engine

Hi all I have now had a chance to go through most of the suggestions and still have the noise. I have replaced the water pump & alternator, put on a new belt, changed the oil, checked the manifold for tightness, checked the heat shields on the exhaust and I still have the noise. Having listened t...

Re: Body kit trim colour

Defo look like it is the original trim as it is shaped at the base of the triangle bit infront of the rear arches. They dont look as if they have been sprayed. Will take the bodykit off and see what colour the back of the trim is. if it is black them it has been sprayed if it is white then who knows...

Body kit trim colour

I have just been browsing through e-bay looking for some spares and noticed a difference between my MK1 and most of the MK1's listed :-k The trim that runs between the side skirts and the body is colour coded on my car, where as all the cars on e-bay have black trim between the side skirts and the b...

Re: screech from engine

Thanks sheepy didn't think of that. The head has just been done so sounds like that could be it. Will need to leave it till next weekend as I will need to take the fuel rail off to check the inlet manifold. Exhaust is tight as I just checked that. Also took aux belt off and gave it a very short run,...

Re: screech from engine

Hi Guys 100% sure it is not aux drive belt, I have just checked it anyway, tension seems OK. Not the crank pulley as I have just recenly done the timing and replaced the Cam belt, etc. Sounds like a bit like a bearing, but water pump is new & altenator is a recon unit. Both replaced when I did t...

screech from engine

Hi

Anyone got any suggestions on this. I am getting a screech from the engine between 1,500 and 3,000 RPM. no noise at idle. Only makes the screech when the wngine is under load (accelerating)

I don't think it is the aux drive belt as it is the wrong sort of screech
