Re: 20 Valve 4A-GE

What power are you putting out totta and how much did your cams cost? I emailed catcams last week and haven't had a reply yet :( I'm just finishing off a good usable map for the Freedom at the moment and when that is done I will get it on a rolling road to further tune it, I would expect the power ...

Lauren wrote:You must have pretty mild cams then.

Even 264s have a power band up to 8300rpm.

Catcams 266 inlet 9.5mm lift
260 exhaust 9.0 mm lift

Not really that aggressive and I prefer lift to duration.

I've yet to see a dyno of a 4age with 264's making power much
beyond 7600rpm though

Re: 20 Valve 4A-GE

For the money your could just do the turbo swap, but the turbo dont rev to 9k! Neither does the 20v! More like 8200rpm. Yes and it runs out of power at what ? 7200rpm ?? My 16v smallport with Catcams and Freedom ecu will rev to 9k rpm but there is absolutely no point when it stops making power at 7...

thanks for that I'm going to entrust it to my brother and his mate theyre both engineers and work in cad/cam machine shops I dont understand how it can be put back differently as there a hole going all the way through where the pin goes and one side has a dimple which matchs the dimple on the housi...

Re: dam !!!! damaged a dizzy driver gear trying to rebuild it

If you have not done this job before it's worth noting that the
drive gear can be put back on half a tooth out.
Watch out for that ! lol

Re: cambelt tensioner spring?

I had one come off, it hooked itself into the belt and went around
and around with it
I was lucky as it did it at idle speed.
I always check the clearance from the end of the spring to the belt now.

Re: 4AGE budget cam install and tuning

Nice to know the fueling is good and ''safe'' for the engine, worth a trip to the rollers just for that.
ECU's ?
When the time comes Omex will be my choice as they do a complete
throttle body kit for the 4AGE

Re: 4AGE budget cam install and tuning

Lauren have you played around with the cam timing at all ? My engine with 266/260 cams was transformed by adjusting the cam timing and fitting a Cusco ecu Your modded ecu may have a different ignition timing maps to the standard ecu and whilst the stock ecu can run an engine with 264 cams it may wel...

It could be at the wheels given your engine spec. Lauren:

Re: 4AGE Tuning

As above Lauren is right, 160hp is relatively easy to obtain and should keep the engine reliable and tractable. 180hp is going to need very high revs and that will create a small power band in turn meaning a close ratio gearbox may be neccesary. Whilst Toyota were still having to consider emissions ...

Re: 4AGE Tuning

Here is a standard reference page:

http://www.billzilla.org/4agmods.htm#115hp

IMHO it rather simplifies engine preparation and tuning.
180hp normally aspirated is not going to be easy out of a 1600cc engine.

Find the Pistenclause (sp) Restaurant in the village and if you are not a vegetarian then the 'steak on a stone' comes highly recommended.
Sabine Schmitt is a waitress there too 8)

Re: Is it legal/possible...

I suppose it's a question of 'if's' really. Chances of rolling? Extremely low. Chances of rolling and the roof caving in, even lower. MK1s are pretty strong on the old roof anyway. I never worried about it and my head seems to still be attached. You take your chances etc. I couldn't use an inertia ...

Re: Is it legal/possible...

To fit a harness without a roll cage in the MR2? If so, does anyone do it? Pics?... Possible ? yes Recommended ? No If the car rolls over and the roof collapses a 3 point inertia belt will allow your body to "bend" across the diagonal. A harness will keep your shoulders upright and if the...

You need to make sure you bleed the rear brakes with the car level.
Jack up the front and rear of the car if necessary.

It can happen if the bushes were tightened up before allowing them to 'settle'
I usually fit the bushes but leave all the bolts loose overnight with the weight of the car on its wheels.

Re: Big flatspot on Bluetop 4AGE- but I think I might have an idea

My '86 also has a bit of a flat spot at the same revs and the engine will almost stall when pulling away gently.
I have cured this problem before but it means adjusting the TPS..........
good luck with that 8-[
