Re: 2008 Restoration Show
Just to say, as an "outsider" on the day, thanks a lot to Stuart, for helping steer me in the right direction to get the "correct" big end bearings for my car ;) I am looking forward to the NEC, should be a giggle, if my car doesn't mis-behave before then ;) (fingers crossed). An...

Re: Knocking rear nearside help please
Could possibly be a CV joint? I seem to remember a couple of posts recently about this. Jack the rear wheel off the ground with the handbrake released (make sure you chock the front wheel) and rotate the wheel gently in either direction if there is a fair bit of movement and a "clonk" befo...

Re: "We don't adjust valves"
But anyway, I'll measure them myself this weekend if I have the time. But I have no clue how to replace them. Normally you need a special tool no? No, you don't need any special tools, to check them (a tourque wrench would be good thou). Remove the throttle cable tripod thing, remove the 2 cam cove...

Re: Smell of Petrol in Cabin. Help needed.
OK, I know this is a well documented problem/solution, but have you made sure it's not something else? My MR2 recently had this problem, it turned out to be one of the o rings on the injectors was weeping, dripping onto the inlet manifold, evaporatiing and making the smell. Just thought I would thro...

Re: Mk1 digital dash project
Hadn't really thought, but now you mention it!!! Sounds cool! Send me any info you have and we can sort it, I think a low pressure "oil light" would be a very good idea, I thought about adding a 2nd switch to the engine, but easier to grab the info going to the gauge ;) A low/high trip poi...

Re: Mk1a - Mk1b, differences??
Just another "super anorak" thing I noticed while I have been doing my engine over the last few days...... The Mk1a pistons I have have a concave (an "innie"?) dimple in the crown (about 2-3mm diameter) this is located nearer the front of the engine side of the piston (if a round...

Re: Mk1 digital dash project
Hello PW (sorry not sure of your name). I am big into PIC microcontrollers, its what I do for my living, I just wondered if you could share your info on your voltage in to values? I am really interested in the voltage coming in on the oil presure sensor, e.g. 1V per 10psi or whatever. If you need so...

Re: Oil seems to drain away overnight
Somehow I feel I misunderstood your question since it seems rather "simple" for someone who is able to rebuild an engine. [Confused] No, you have not misunderstood, maybe i need to be a bit more specific, the sump holds 3.3L to full (from memory). After starting the car the dipstick indic...

Oil seems to drain away overnight
I just had a quick thought, just before I stripped this engine down, I noticed that the oil was draining back into the sump overnight. If I did a level check after a quick run the oil would be 1/2 way on the dipstick (I have the shorter dipstick on my engine). When checked in the morning the oil lev...

Re: BANG wtf was that!
Although I am not feeling to cosy towards the mr2 mechanical reliability (see my other posts), it is posible that the CV boot is/has been split and that dirt has got into the CV joint. Dirt in the CV joint will destroy it in no time, plus the fact that the oil in it will be lost. If this process has...
