Re: mintex
i've got 1144's on the rear of my rally car (mk1a fronts) and they are good, a lot better than anything from ebc, green to grabby then no balls, yellow crap cold ok warm crap hot. strange, as we love the ebc yellowstuff on our mk1a track car :thumleft: never had any fade, and driven hard round most...

Re: Exhaust popping and banging
advanced timing is usually what makes them pop all the time. the backfire is not that great if its gets to be all the time on lift-off.
small leaks will also do the same (ie like the chavs that used to put small holes in exhausts on purpose)

Re: MK1's with Aircon
Air con was available as a VERY expensive option in uk mk1s.
(read as 'no-one bothered', but if they went for the expensive black paint option and had money to burn, they i guess they could afford the air con option too, maybe cd player too?)

Re: Sloshing water noise when start car up
I presume you bled the heater matrix bit as well as the rad bleed point?
Also give the matrix hoses a bit of a squeeze to help circulate the air bubble/air lock there.

Re: cheap headgasket set?
shame!
(but they told you so ^^^ )
not worth losing trackday money for the price of a good gasket!
hope you have spares for the engine so you get it sorted out okay
cadwell is an ace circuit for the mk1 too. would love to do cadders again now out track mk1 is more sorted.

Re: Steam Cleaning engine?
After my SC burned to the ground i'm wary of anything burning off. oil can catch fire, and it depends on what else catches too.
perhaps get this sorted asap

Re: Toyo T1Rs vs Yokohama Paradas
we tried the parada spec II's. they did loads of miles round spa circuit, but did suffer from tyre wall roll, but were pretty progressive. they are not the tyre on elises, the paradas are a good budget option. Yok Advan neova (or ?A039) i think were the elise tyres and the neova are loved by those t...

Re: Datsun Flares
I see what you mean about the fronts on the slver one. its like he realised they weren't kade wide enoough, so just fitted them further out! not good. they should match the rear.
really nice look on the car though . love the alloys.

Re: Steam Cleaning engine?
Doh! been there,done that
yes you can steam clean it, but pop plasic bags over stuff like the alternator. Oil will prob have gone down into the plug channel too, so clean this before removing the plugs to ensure nothing goes into the engine.

Re: engine change
crikey - didn't know you needed a new engine. you've not had much luck with having to do stuff to that car you wil need to swap looms as well as the engine if you are swaping 1a to 1b, plus you need other 1b bits unless you are gettign a job lot - eg intake manifold, injectors, ecu..... easier to do...
