Re: 2GR options for 400-500bhp
I'm building a boosted VQ35 (3.8l, carillo rods, cp pistons, stock crank, darton sleeves, heads fully built o/s valves, cams, porting etc) that I'm mating to a Cayman box, and mounting longitudinally in a two....early days, but we love a long term project

Re: 2GR options for 400-500bhp
Personally I've seen the 2GR turbo'd, running ~500hp (UK flywheel) on stock internals, with dubious intercooling. It ran hot, but well....don't know how long it lasted! Personally I'd do pistons (to drop CR) and rods if boosting, but the real appeal of that engine is running it stock with nice torqu...

Have a chat with these guys, they're actually really helpful once you get talking: https://www.monkeywrenchracing.com/product-category/lotusevora/evoraengineparts/ Mainly focused on big NA builds, but they do boost too...if you want to go big consider sleeves :thumleft: Alex has also shared some goo...

Re: The Grey Phoenix..Summer update
Just curious is all, I've got a pair in my loft that I've never fitted cos I took the cage out...was reading through your build and didn't see mention of it.
No offence intended, I'm sure you know what you're doing

Did you fit any form of side impact protection behind your doors when you put the fiber glass doors on?

Re: Mr2 spider for sale in Japan
Tis a fair point, well made...but c'mon that is a shed load of cash for basically a G-limited with the roof cut off innit? But someone did pay that for it...my guess is a collector with so much cash they don't care, they just want the car as part of a collection. In which case rarity and other inter...

Re: Mr2 spider for sale in Japan
Amen, only a loony would consider throwing that much money away!
Simply not worth the money...not even close, even if it was a special edition, limited anniversary spider no 001 off the line.....even then it's not worth that.
It's an MR2.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Turbo choices
I dunno- I'm on full boost by 2.5k rpm with the current turbo and it's huge fun to drive, only issue is I can't flow more than 1.4bar boost through it, so tops out at 380hp. Plenty enough for spirited driving, but it would be nice to see closer to 450hp....I just dont want to sacrifice the low down ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Turbo choices
That is impressive flow for that size turbine wheel, no doubt spraying methanol helped keep EGTs in check, I'm kind of considering the smaller compressor wheel option...the low-mid range grunt makes for a weapon of a street car

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Turbo choices
The G25-660 is probably what you want if you want to get close to 500hp+, and it will spool earlier than your GT3582.
The G25-550 will spool even earlier again, but you may struggle to flow more than 400 - 440hp at the flywheel.
Depends what you want....if it's bigger power, then maybe the G30-660!

Agreed- I've got this one for a steal for sure, but in fairness not many folk look at a scruffy old MR2 and see "the potential"

Re: Mr2 spider for sale in Japan
I just bought a completely rust free rev2 tintop for £150 if that gives you an idea of value these days, granted its a non-runner NA- but still....a tin top with original, solid sills for £150  Was at Peter's last weekend- he's got a spider in at the moment for a sill job, so they do exist in...

Mines safely tucked up in the garage still, got some new parts on the shelves awaiting some time...but been more focused on our daughter recently.
Thinking of making the drive out to LeMans next year for the hypercar racing (assuming it still happens)...

Re: Handling - twitchy above 60mph
Thanks guys, it has been the worst time of my life, and certainly puts everything into perspective. Suddenly all the stuff I thought was important just doesn't matter anymore! We've been amazingly lucky though (which is odd to say when my 6 year old daughter has brain cancer), but she's alive! They ...

Re: Handling - twitchy above 60mph
Yep- dry sump completed and we ran it on the dyno at ~400hp (small turbo)...didn't make any additional power as it's flow limited based on the small turbo, but interestingly it's pulling a vacuum in the crank case now. This meant a few tweaks to the crank seals to prevent them leaking air into the s...
