Re: Selling car nightmare! Grrr
http://www.autojapspares.co.uk is the parts dept but they have a workshop around the corner. I think the address is 223 Torrington Avenue. Though I have to say I had a bit of a falling out with them after they kept my car for four weeks and the crappy hire car they lent me even broke down before cha...

Re: Selling car nightmare! Grrr
oh, to answer your question, I bought it about 18 months ago and it was fine til I discovered the uneven wear on the rear tyres when I changed them and the handling was all off. Got it sorted and the chassis has been checked thoroughly and it's never been touched. Thing is I now do regular trips dow...

Re: Selling car nightmare! Grrr
Yeah, that's an issue, you may be right but as said, I don't agree to hiding the fact coz I've got nothing to hide and the car drives fine. I had to put some new suspension parts in at the rear offside. I spent more than I care to think about at a mk1 specialist in Coventry. It's so tidy though in t...

Re: Selling car nightmare! Grrr
It's in the for sale section on here. Trouble is my parents helped me out when I found a car I really wanted so I didn't have to sell this first and secondly I only have on street parking ](*,) If I could hang on until spring or summer I would coz I could prolly get a fair bit more but I just wanna ...

Re: buying advise please
How ironic, I read this thread after posting the topic about not finding a buyer! lol I've got an ad for offers around £1000 but could do a deal. As I've stated in my add the previous seller didn't tell me it'd been written off and I don't feel the need to hold that back as I spent a load getting it...

Selling car nightmare! Grrr
Is this just a terrible time to sell or does no-one want these cars anymore?! #-o Had my car up for a sale for a while now and am prepared to practically give the bloody thing away right now! lol Can't afford to keep insuring it. Has anyone else had any problems selling one or can anyone suggest a g...

Mr2 mk1 red sunroof model - £1000 ovno *NOW SOLD*
*UPDATE Full years MOT just put on!* Well as the title suggests, I'm selling my MR2 MK1 '88 in red. I'll be gutted to see it go but at the moment I'm doing a lot of long motorway miles in it and as we all know it's no refined motorway cruiser, so I've gone somewhat the other way and bought a Volvo! ...

Re: fuel pump gone
Interesting result on this one. The garage took it apart, as I understand through the interior, and gained access to the pump. He checked the feed and plugged in his own feed and when it was put back together it worked. He phoned me saying he'd fixed it but didn't know how! What do people think? Did...

fuel pump gone
my 88 mk1 has packed in at work. It was left out all day in extreme cold and by the time I came to drive home it'd turn over but wouldn't catch. AA came out and said there's no fuel getting through so he thinks the fuel pump has gone. Would that be caused by extreme cold or can they temporarily pack...

Re: Head Gasket is gone! What now?!
You over estimate my mechanical knowledge and abilities, plus unfortunately that'd also involve getting it to Derby. I think the options will have to remain the same; Sell it for parts as a whole or scrap it. Unless there is anyone close enough to Crawley who thinks they can do the gasket remarkably...

Head Gasket is gone! What now?!
Okay so my worst fears have been realised! I had to leave my car at my parents house in Crawley and return to Derby. They had a local garage pick it up who have just phoned me and told me they have tested it and the head gasket has indeed gone! :pale: So my question is what do I do now? There's no w...

Thanks. What's making you think that then? Is there a guide somewhere here to removing/checking the thermostat?

Re: Overheating - coolant problems
Also, if it is the water pump (and it's started dripping while on the ramps now so I'm fairly sure it's something in that area) what sort of labour time should I expect to be paying out for to replace it?

Overheating - coolant problems
I posted previously believing I had a blown head gasket. Fortunately I don't think it is that now as I've found a leak (or a couple of leaks) that would explain the overheating. Unfortunately I can't see where the leak starts. Looking from behind the car it drips down this side of the sump on the ri...

Re: MKI as a daily
I also think it's important to remember the cost of a mk1. If you buy one for £1000 and it lasts you a year or so of daily commute or thrashing abuse then u've saved money you could have spent buying a fiesta. Consider buying a new fiesta on a good deal at say, £7000, in a year or two it'll be worth...
