Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Radiator fans

Yes mate you are correct.

The fans are controlled in part by the air con ECU and should the ECU see anything not quite right (in your case a missing rad sensor) then it'll engage safety mode which puts both fans on full blast all the time.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Mileage on MK2 Turbo..

My Rev 3 Tubby is on 135'000 miles, the last 30'000 was running 1.2 bar on the CT20, charge cooled and Link G3, late 200's BHP. Touch wood all is fine and should be for much longer. In theory if engines are looked after enough they should last a very long time. I've heard of Toyota's doing 250'000 m...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] What tyres.......

I've recently put Toyo T1R's on my Tubby's rears and have lost all confidence in carrying BIG speed in bends, especially during direction change. I've increased pressures which has improved things a little. I'm just hoping as the miles stack up the tyres will get better. If things are still the same...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Wobble/shake of whole car?

I think I could well of gotten to the bottom of this one. Have been reading some posts about Toyo T1R's being a bit pants (stock 15" size) and having major flex in the sidewalls. The advice was to increase tyre pressures to minimise the flex. Anyways, I've increased the pressures 3psi above sto...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Wobble/shake of whole car?

I wish the captive nut had sheared from the subframe as at least i could sort this but there fine, checked after reading a post mentioning them. I'm still thinking it could be the ball joints but also the bushes that attach the trailing arms to the chassis. If there is moment in these it would in tu...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Wobble/shake of whole car?

Seems like a growing trend, as I'm suffering this strange (steer from the rear ) type handling. Spec:- Rev 3 Standard Alloys Toyo's 195/55/15 & 225/50/15 Tein super streets New drop links + Anti Roll Bushes 4 wheel alignment carried out to Dino settings:- Front toe = 1mm Rear toe = 2mm Neg cambe...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Reconditioned turbo fitted, running problems

When you put your foot down does the Turbo spool up but you don't get the increase in power? If this is the case as was with mine then the Cam timing is out. I changed the Cam belt on my Tubby and afterwards when putting foot down I could hear the turbo spooling as per normal but the extra power was...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo]Stainless multi Layer Head Gaskets Torque

The Rev 3 onwards Tubbys have multi layer steel head gaskets so I'd torque to the values quoted for Rev 3.

I used ARP (stud and nut) head bolts when i did mine so the torque (65lbft) will not apply to standard stretch bolts.

hope this helps

Re: Wheel Alignment settings (one for a STICKY?) converted to mm's

Thought it would be handy to convert these figures into mm's Dinos settings:- Front toe (total) = 0.4mm or degrees and mins +0°04' Rear toe (total) = 2.1mm or degrees and mins +0°30' Camber front (negative) 3.6mm or degrees and mins -0°50' Camber rear (negative) 9mm or degrees and mins -1°25' It goe...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] badges on my car

Daft as it sounds but dental floss works fine, wrap around and use a sawing motion. No marking of paint, job done. In your case it seems they may well of been taken off to be coloured red, i hope they didn't use epoxy or sumat to stick em back on, that would of been evil. Hope all goes well Spannerm...

Woah, excellent work mate.

I can't fault your efforts, totally brilliant. I think if more people were as adventurous as you and got stuck in there'd be less running costs.

Much credit to you :)

All the best with your continued work :D

Sorry to say this guys but mine was exactly like what your experiencing.

Replaced all the little things, thermostat / Rad cap etc. Ultimately it turned out to be the head gasket.

Yup same here,

Little bumps, the big stuff aint a problem.

Worse is a continus mildly uneven surface, its more like a hollow rumble then.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] knocking from the rear

The Bilsteins that I replaced with the Tein Coilovers where fitted to a friends N/A MR2. We used his top mounts and guess what, no knocking. I'm gonna replace the rear top mounts at some point but also have a look around the car. It almost sounds like someone is tapping the resonator box by the air ...

Is she reving up a lot quicker now then.

Say you blip the throttle whilst out of gear do the rev's shoot up quicker than with the stock heavy fly wheel.

Rev's like a F1 car????

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] knocking from the rear

I've replaced all the below:- --- Shocks with Tein Coil Overs --- Drop Links --- Anti Roll bar bushes (Front / rear) --- Ball joints (Front) --- Top mounts (Front) I still get the wooden knocking noise from Rear. It can't be any of the above, all I can see it being now is either Ball joints (rear) o...
