Well the biggest advantage over moving to the cold side is that the valve lasts longer!

The standard location isn't great as it's close to the turbo and can suffer.

There is also a good argument for being as near to the throttle body for beneficial throttle response as well.

The sound they make is ultimately down to how the sound is amplified.
