Re: getting a MK3
Precats can break up with no oil passing or a misfire in sight. Toyota used cheap ceramic material, it's quite happy to break down with no outside assistance at all. My first car (post facelift) had the precats break up within 10k miles, and then when I had the manifold changed under warranty the br...

Re: getting a MK3
I have heard plenty of people worried about the pre cats being sucked into the engine.. how could they get sucked in thru the exhaust? The exhaust blows out the spent gasses,it doesn't suck them in.   Man, I hope it's not mk3s you work on! From the MR2-ROC sticky on precats: The 1ZZ...

Re: getting a MK3
Pop the O2 sensors out and take a look at the top of them. Not infallible as they can crack from the bottom up, but it's the best you can reasonably do.

Ah, the rolly-eyes smiley. Truly the epitome of return wit when you realise how stupid and narrow-minded your original comment was.

Indeed. Having a significantly better car can never be a bad thing.

Re: 2ZZ-GE, is it worth?
So you've owned a car with that engine in then? Driven it every day? How comes you turbo converter the current one then? I've driven both MR2s and Elises with that engine in. I went for a turbo conversion because it was cheaper at that particular time. The Yamaha lump is a cracking engine, it just ...

You're wrong. Hate it break it to you like that, soz.
190bhp in a car that weighs 990kg is plenty quick enough.

Hi, and welcome along.
When you say pickup, in what part of the rev range are you? Assume you're at WOT?

I get about 5k out of a set of 888s, so you're miles over that. Do you slide a lot?

That really is!
I wish I'd taken my driving test a little earlier so I could tow stuff, I waited 6 months too long so now I need to do another sodding test just to tow anything

The Hass kit was an utter POS unless you ploughed a fortune in it to sort out the crappy bits. The TTE/SP kit was a billion times better in every way.
And I speak as an ex-owner of both.

No probs, let us know how you get on
It's such a nice place to drive, not having to check your speedo in the NSL means you can fully concentrate on your driving, it's very liberating.

Re: Any Isle of Man MR2 owners
Take the A36 west from Foxdale, it's a better bit of road than the TT mountain bit by some margin. Also, on the mountain take the road take the A14 down and just keep going, it's lovely down there too. :thumleft: If you're going to do the TT course, get up early and do it before it gets busy. Nothin...

On track, definitely. On the road, sometimes. Even with the turbo 6th isn't always the most helpful gear.

Re: Replacement air filter
Depends what you're after.
Open air filter gives more noise but less power, panel filter gives more power but less noise. For max power you want a decent panel filter along with a markiii pipe, for best noise but still with good filtration you want an A'Pexi intake.

Oh, is that it? I thought we were talking hundreds of pounds here.
Sod it, I'd just get the Toyota stuff for that sort of money, peanuts in the grand scale of things.
