Re: Parking a Mk1

In a nutshell the use of the push pull method is why I would never consider doing IAM/ROSPA stuff. That's a depressingly blinkered attitude really. For someone who claims to enjoy driving so much I would have thought you'd be more aware of different techniques or at least open to them. Absolutely. ...

Re: Winter Tyres?

They look interesting but was thinking of getting Winter tyres for the Mk1a wheels since already have fairly new Goodyear tyres on the rear already. These keep popping up on various searches: http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?details=Ordern&cart_id=37137759.110.2842&typ=R-147259&ran...

Re: what 'bush' is this called?

If you are replacing that bit, you'll do well to get a new "crush tube" from toyota at the same time (unless it comes wit hthe bushes). Mine were a bit pitted and worn from too much use once the bushes were perished. I think they were a couple of quid each.

Re: T-Bar without the T??

These apparently came straight from the factory like this. Jinxy had some literature about them, as I understand it these were designed to copy the X19 more closely with the fully removable roof. Not sure how many pieces it is in when it comes apart. I was going to say, the band of metalwork on the...

Re: Driving with front wings removed?

It's unlawful on the basis that the wheels should not extrude further than any piece of bodywork, that's an MOT failure, and on that basis you'd absolutely be stopped and charged. It is NOT an mot failure. No, but it is "driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition". I'd expect to be stoppe...

My average Mpg over 10,000 miles was 30mpg near as damnit, which gave me a tank range (to completely empty) of ~260-290 miles.

Sounds like a grands worth to me, depending on the extent of the rust. Get it a full years MOT and polish it up for sale. I got good reponses from this ad on a sister site.

Re: Radio controlled AW11

If Oukie would let you take a mould of his, no doubt someone with the equipment could bash out a batch.
With CAD you could even scale them, and make bodies for 1/8, 1/12, 1/24 scale cars....

I keep them full soft for the road, feels fine to me, a nice balance of ride compliance and handling. Anything firmer feels too "lively" over uneven B-Roads IMO.

Very pleased with my HEL braided lines. Lovely quality and perfect fit. GOt them from ebay for about £60. Just needed some circlips and replaced the metal shims that hold the unions in place.

Got to the bottom of it. He was a used car dealer trying to turn a quick buck. I'm selling it to someone who cares instead.

Front end rust trouble spots??

Hi all, I'm selling my car, I sent this picture to the buyer and he's asked "what is the damage/corrosion in front of the head lights is?"(Sic) Forgive me, but I really can't see what he's refering to. I know the radiator slam panel can rust, but what are the other trouble spots so I can t...

I think that's fair enough, having driven a few MX-5's as well. They're lovely cars, and finding a good one is a whole heap easier than finding an equivalent quality Mk1 Mr2.

Re: MOT advisory - rear ball joints

Thanks for all the advice. I'll put it on my list of things to do. May purchase that balljoint splitter first though. :thumleft: I really wouldn't bother with a ball joint splitter. I broke one (the screw and lever type), and the "tuning fork" style one didn't work either. What did work w...

Re: starter motor amps drawn on cranking

Common figures seem to be around 150-250 amps for normal sized 4 pot petrols. Apparently they start at around 250amps and drop as it continutes to crank. I'd wait for a proper answer before you buy any breakers! Makes me think though - the amplifiers I'm about to fit in my BMW can draw 180 amps betw...

There is also enough room to house a single or double 6.5" driver behind the seats, in a triangular or trapezoidal croos section box. My crazy MK1 install has gone by the wayside - it jusr never sounded good, and I've now got a BMW for a proper sound quality install. I'm going to bung 4" H...

Re: I want new suspension

Remember to factor in costs for wheel alignment at a decent garage also as castor and camber will be off. If you're getting the struts out, probably a good idea to do the top mounts as well, although I think most last ages it saves a big job further down the line. THey're an extra £200 to replace t...

Also, Australia has a very different climate meaning different oils may be more appropriate.
Stick with manufacturers recommendations IMO.
Can't go wrong with Castrol 10W40 Magnatec for every day use.

Re: I want new suspension

You won't be disappointed with the koni set up - I think if you go cheaper you may regret it. That said, hunt for bargains, I got my Koni kit brand new but second hand with a set of spare struts for £400. Consider also another £150 polybush kit and new ball joints, IMO no point doing one without the...
