Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rebuild finished, engine fitted and......at last on the road!!

P.S
This is the only thing casuing me grief now.
The engine starts on the key with no code 52's, no smoking, leaks etc.
It really is sounding nice.

If i can just get the brakes sorted I could get it MOT'd and put some miles on it before the winter sets in!!!!

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rebuild finished, engine fitted and......at last on the road!!

So the saga continues............ OK, i have now bled the clutch. After two days of faffing around with no results my Dad came over and had a look. He then came up with something that sorted it in around an hour. For the curious ones here's what we did. Cut a mountain bike inner tube around 10"...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Strange behaviour from clock

Anyone know what could be the likely cause behind this; Rebuild now finished and ignition on starts everything up. Door closed and clock starts from 1.00 and counts up as normal. I then open the door and the clock goes off, close the door and the clock resets to 1:00 and starts again. Everytime the ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rebuild finished, engine fitted and......at last on the road!!

No, I've got the RPS Max 450ft/lb one.

I've seen the braided hose and longer rod from GTS Chris. Are these worth having?
So did you ditch the std. metal lines from front to back?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rebuild finished, engine fitted and......at last on the road!!

Yes, had my wife in the car (!!!) pumping the pedal and still no joy.
Any attempt at pushing the pedal just makes it spring to the floor, it then spring back up and this can go on for ages with no pressure building up to react aginst the springing action.

How have people here done it?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rebuild finished, engine fitted and......at last on the road!!

OK, here we go again. Came back from a business trip and now trying to put this to bed and actually get it on the road. So bleeding the clutch, any pressure on the pedal would cause it to spring down to the floor with no resistance at all. Pulling up the pedal would again cause it spring up. Fluid i...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Goodridge brake hoses... not such a good fit

Fitted mine yesterday and had the same problems with the hole spacing. Ended up drilling out / filing one of the holes per side. As for Goodridge saying it's down to a part that's bought in that's just ridiculous. Haven't they heard of incoming inspection?? The part that goes out of the door has Goo...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] XS INTERCOOLER QUESTIONS

Haven't long fitted mine and it all went on OK. That is apart from the missing hoses. Ended up getting some from siliconhoses.co.uk. Before fitting I'd heard that the clamps are a little big for the hoses. What i did was to remove the nut from the XS clamp and fit a larger nut and washer before re-f...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Oil change

The oil filter can be a bit of a git to remove if it was over tightened when it was fitted. Make sure you have a decent removal tool and you should be OK. Many people go for the slip on type that matches up with the flats of the filter top. I've used the three claw type ones that bite into (and dest...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Clutch problem? I assume

After a longwinded and expensive engine rebuild mine is showing similar symptoms. Went to bleed the clutch on the weekend and the pedal just sprang to the floor like it was on elastic. Pulled it up and again it jumped right up. And so on for ages with no pressure ever building up I know I've lost pr...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] What size Head Gasket?

JasonB, I also believe Wiseco use 1.4mm HG's for CR calculations also, so a 9.0:1 piston and 1mm head gasket would create a 9.3ish (estimated guess) compression ratio which is starting to get high for a turbocharged engine Tim Would this cause any problems?? I intend running a ct20b on around 16/17...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Inlte Manifold On Rev2 Head?

Is this something you'd look at offering on a sale to the public basis or is it just too much messing around??

What about getting a batch of ally adaptors made in a CNC machining place??

My brother works in one so could ask around??

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Inlte Manifold On Rev2 Head?

Didn't Ryan at 2Bar tuning look into making up an adaptor for this??

As was said I know it's not a straight swap as the stud holes / port centres are slightly out but I'm sure someone on here was looking at getting something done.

Try PM'ing 2Bar tuning for info.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] What size Head Gasket?

Anyone have any views on 9.0 : 1 CR Wiseco pistons and a 0.040" (or 1.05mm in new money) Cometic MLS head gasket??

Surely this wouldn't be too high a compression ratio??

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rebuild finished, engine fitted and......at last on the road!!

Got my GM knock sensor yesterday and fitted it up. Started the car fine, left it idling nicely for a while then built the revs up to about 4K rpm and ....... NO KNOCK SENSOR ISSUES! Stayed with it for ages varying the revs between tickover and holding it at 2k,3k and 4k and all was good. Engine came...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Lexus IS300 brake calipers

OK, I had a go at checking this out last night. I can confirm that the Lexus calipers fit directly onto the MR2 caliper carrier / torque plate / the bit that bolts to the hub with no issues. With no brake pads in place the std. 15" alloy (flat face spokes as fitted to the rev.2 on) went over th...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rebuild finished, engine fitted and......at last on the road!!

Yeah, cam timing was confirmed. The cams have a little hole that lines up with a cut away on the No.1 cam bearing tops. When checked these were in line. As of last night the engine ran fine (except for shwoing the code 52), no roughness at all. For the 1st time it ticked over and revved up to about ...
