Re: Why are MR2 Turbos still undervalued?

It was a couple of weeks ago now but someone lists an old Rev 2 turbo with questionable history, rust and a massive list of problems. Within hours two people with 0 feedback bid on the car and bring the price upto around 7k, the listing disappeared not long after. Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid or s...

Re: Why are MR2 Turbos still undervalued?

Nobody has said they are rubbish, we all love em!

It's just most people won't pay 7k for a average rev 2 money pit.

Some joker on eBay listed a knackered Rev 2 for 7k earlier then created two fake accounts to bid on it. Think its gone now someone must have called him out.

Re: Why are MR2 Turbos still undervalued?

All that Ebay and the freeads tell me is that there are a few ok examples getting regurgitated again and again. Someone who's never had one pays over the odd's thinking its a future classic. They bite off more than they can chew chasing rust around, worn out suspensions, rev 2's with leaking gaskets...

Re: Why are MR2 Turbos still undervalued?

They have done the full circle. You could get a decent rev 3 turbo for around 3k 7-8 years ago if you shopped around. They're getting old now and imports are drying up as they aren't as viable anymore. The lack of supply is driving prices up but in a few more years there won't be many at all most of...

Toyo T1R are the value option as we're FK452 if they're still going. If you don't want to compromise Yokohama AD08R are head and heels above any other premium imo.

Re: Rev2 turbo 300ish bhp

You're not far wrong with that, pretty much a rev 3 conversion. Do that and turn the boost upto 15-17PSI and you wont be far off that 300. The standard rev 3 turbo ecu will manage too. Of course go for the aftermarket ECU if you intend to take it further in future but the next step is a big one, for...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Gen3 3SGTE - best forged piston?

Don't overbore if at all possible, CP forged pistons 86mm. If this isn't possible go for the smallest overbore possible 86.25.

As mentioned don't get too hung up on compression ratio, the same mechanic that built mine has many high power builds out there for various customers and are very reliable.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] The Exhaust Thread

Last two turbos I have gone for the Mongoose exhaust. It looks standard, well made and has a good tone. As mentioned it can be a bit drony but I found that it was about 60-65mph but levelled out again once you got to 70mph so I found motorway cruising pretty inoffensive. You can also pick them up fo...

Re: What engine oil in your mega miles Tubby?

Judge the car on how much oil it burns and don't overthink it. Just stick with a good quality synthetic 10w40 or thereabouts. If it starts using a lot of oil then I would probably start thinking about using a thicker oil, only if I didn't plan on rebuilding it or I was going to sell it.

My Walbro was the same, it wasn't too bad on short journeys but if you got stuck in traffic it progressively louder.
It was a concern but I was told it was nothing to worry about.
Made 2.0 bar on a Gt3082R with a Speedsource rail and 1200cc injectors.

Re: What oil to use ? Spark Plugs?Air Filter Brand and Fuel Filter?

Hi mate, people tend to get too hung up on details when I comes to servicing in my opinion. Oil wise you won't go wrong with a good quality ester synthetic be it 5w40, 10w40 or 5w50 etc. (I always used Millers cfs 10w40 on a 450hp lump Road use.). I would probably change it every 6k at the most if y...

Use BKR6E They are cheap and do a good job. Its one of the most common plugs used in the MR2 Circle.

I don think Fensport will map a power FC last time i used them they were only mapping Link ECU's as they are a supplier and Motec.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Con rods!!

Plenty of big HP builds out there with standard rods and standard rod bolts (500hp+), stick some forged pistons in there 86mm if your block allows it and a MLS headgasket with ARP head studs and you will be good to go :thumleft:

I'll be honest Ryan while I might have my own opinion on filters, if I was using a good quality synthetic which I always did, changing every 3k is throwing money away imo.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Halfords oil filter part codes?

Just see if you can get a GT4 filter from Halfords, it will be as good as any other OEM. Ignore the people telling you otherwise based on forum science. In the real world it will be fine, does anyone really thing its going to be a problem using a decent oil with a filter from Halfords?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Halfords oil filter part codes?

If you insist of using Halfords look in the booklet there and see if they have any Celica GT4 filters thats what i used to use years ago that is the right filter with the valve in, MR2 turbo wont be in there and the MR2 filters are for the n/a and are too small.

Re: Anyone able to take on my mr2 project? North West area (ol13)

As above i appreciate people get attached to cars but don't carry on it will just be a money pit, for what it will cost you could probably buy a pretty clean n/a. I know MR2's are being put up for silly money both turbo and n/a but if you look at what people are putting them up for and what they are...
