Re: Is your MR2 reliable ?????!!

I've personally found both N/A and turbo reliable on the whole. MR2's are great cars for their age. You have to expect for some things to need replacing once they reach a certain mileage though. My guess is a lot of people with problems have modified their cars.

Re: How to make a mk3 faster?

Hmm, interesting to see the amount of options available. I was very tempted by a mk3, it looks nice and handles so well but the major flaw was the severe lack of power. Also a shame the soft-top is not electric. These were the main reasons why I plumped for the S2000. I'd probably save up and transp...

Re: instability at high speed

I'm not suggesting the tyres are the sole cause of the problem but I would seriously think about changing them for a half decent brand like Toyo or Falken, any RWD car should have good rubber especially on the rear.

Re: mr2 drivers how old are you

I think it's great that people still own MR2's and such in middle age. I'd like to think that I'll still own nice fast cars as I get older, although I know it becomes more difficult with family commitments etc. I reckon about 80-90% of men aged above 40 would secretly love to own a nice sportscar if...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Smell petrol after hard driving.

Yeah it's normal after a hard or long drive in a turbo. Mine used to smell round the passenger side, especially on hot days. Had it checked out and there were no leaks.

Re: Which fuel do you use?

V-Power, I always tried to use it in the turbo as much as poss. Also using it in the S2000 now. Tesco stuff is probably okay but I trust Shell more.

Good to hear you've got another '2' so soon. I take it you didn't fancy a turbo then, understandable really. Be good to see some pics.

Re: spray worrk

Matching paint is very tricky, especially metallics. I think part of it is down to normal 'wear' of the paint over the years. UV light is known to cause changes after a while. Even the best sprayer will struggle to get it spot on. I can just about tell that mine has had a bit of work done but only u...

Re: Another write off...for f##ks sake !pics added.

I'm not surprised it was a write-off. I had a bump in a previous MR2 and the only damage was dented front wings, broken front bumper and smashed radiator. That was a Cat C I believe. Yours seems to have a fair bit more damage and it's 17 odd years old.

I remember mine passing first time last year and it feels great. You have to praise the MR2.

Re: Another write off...for f##ks sake !pics added.

Like I say I had an accident almost 2 years back, tesco insurance made me a very reasonable offer of £3400 for the car which was a rev 3 turbo with 67k miles. I was barely expecting £3000. Not sure what an N/A would be worth nowadays. I'm not sure I'd buy it back, it depends on the amount of damage ...

Re: Another write off...for f##ks sake !pics added.

Sorry to hear this. Unfortunately any RWD car will slip in damp conditions but MR2's especially and once it goes there's little chance of getting it back. I can understand you having doubts about wanting another MR2 but give it time and you will want to get another one when your confidence is back. ...

Re: Tubby Prices

The mk2 MR2 has held it's value very well overall, particularly the turbo. It's only been the last few months that prices have dropped considerably but even so, the best examples will still fetch a decent amount. When you think that many 5-6 year old hatchbacks are fetching even less than an MR2 it ...

Re: What's quicker, V6 mr2 or rev1 turbo??

Stock for stock, I reckon the turbo would win by a couple of car lengths in a straight line race up to 100mph but on a twisty track I think the V6 may be easier to keep in the power band so it would be a close run thing.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] engine tuning

Tuning is a funny term. It makes people think of a specialist mechanic tweaking with their car's ECU on a machine to make it quicker and smoother. In reality this isn't the case. An oil/filter change can make a fair difference but if you want more power you have to do the usual mods such as filter, ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] My car broke down last night - advice needed :(

I remember the alternator going in my N/A about 2 years back. I had all the lights coming up on the dash. Gradually lost power and the engine began stuttering later on. I just about made it to the garage before it finally went. Phew. I'd say you have about 15-20 miles left from when you get the firs...

Good Year seem to be the best but Toyo are also very good for the money. Falken are also decent.
