Re: window wipers dont move

Apparently this happens by design so that the motor doesn't burn out if the wipers get jammed, or so the AA man told me. Kind of makes sense, just a shame it's so fiddly to pop back on.

Re: clutch

Have you checked the clutch fluid level? Sounds like either no fluid, master/slave cylinder failure or maybe just needs bleeding, all of which are substantially cheaper and easier than replacing the clutch.

Re: Breakdown last night - fuel or cam timing?

Check the pipe from the manifold to the MAP sensor - mine cracked and did exactly this. Local garage said he'd seen it a few times and replaced the metal pipe with a plastic one - problem fixed.

Re: plastic body clips

The car was originally Mica Blue which you can still see inside the frunk and engine bay. It was apparently resprayed approximately 3 years before I bought it (which would make it around 2005) but the previous owner did not have any details of the respray as it was done before he bought it. Having o...

Re: plastic body clips

Oi, get your car out of my driveway Andy! Glad you're enjoying it - no one called it gorgeous when I had it  Probably because it spent most of its life in the garage (keeping dry, not being fixed!) Surprised about the sills though, sailed through the last MOT bodywork/structural wise and was ke...

Not slagging anyone off - just posting facts. If you want to come on here defending yourself at least have the balls to own up to who you are unless you really did join the forum today to stand up for someone who you've never met and lives 200 miles away. If you were a genuine buyer who'd just spoke...

Re: false advertisement

This guy phoned me over 30 times in one day (and through the night) when he wanted to buy my car for a lower price than I'd previously agreed with someone else who was already travelling to pick the car up. Wouldn't take no for an answer when I said he'd have to wait until the other guy had a chance...

Re: Charging problems

Problems with more than one alternator/electrical system could point to a bad engine earth - any problems with starting the car? I'd be checking for a voltage difference between the engine block and the battery negative and also between the battery positive and the thick terminal on the alternator. ...

Re: Tickover and fuel mixture screw/adjuster

As Paul said earlier, first thing to do is whip off the inlet ducting and plug the hole with your finger. It really is a 5 minute job and gives a definitive result. Make sure the engine is fully warmed up for this. If your waxstat is working properly then plugging the hole should have no effect on e...

Re: Tickover and fuel mixture screw/adjuster

Both of my Mk1's have had this problem, current one has been 'fixed' by plugging the hole Paul mentioned with an inverted dust cap with a 2mm hole drilled in it - this has allowed me to easily get the idle down within spec and also it only revs to around 1300rpm when starting from cold. Not a true f...

Re: Tyres again!!

195/50/15 is the preferred size for 15" rims - it's almost exactly the same rolling radius as the original 185/60/14 size. As you've already discovered this size is much cheaper as it's widely used. Goodyear Eagle F1s are amongst the best you can get for all round road use - what problem did yo...

Re: Do I need a new gearbox?

Hi, I'm willing to be corrected but I was always under the impression that release bearing noise would start/increase as you pressed the clutch pedal. The bearing should not be rotating when the clutch is fully engaged and your foot's off the pedal. I've had many high mileage cars and without except...

Re: Sheared Bolt in Coolant Pipe

Hi, Many people don't bother undoing those when doing a coolant change, just do a good flush with plenty of clean water until the water runs clear. It's unlikely there will be a leak as the thread will probably not have shifted at all so the seal should be as good as it was before. You could use bol...

Re: Front End Knocking - driving me mad!

Check that your ARB mountings are solid - had the same with mine, expected it to be ARB links but turned out one of the ARB brackets was bolted onto a rusty hole! Apparently a common place for corrosion.

If you're heading over my way tomorrow we can take a look (you have PM)

Cheers,
Graham

Hi,

Sorry for the delay - been away for a bit. I'll take some photos of the ones I've got and check that there's no rusted off bits. Give me a day or so and I'll get it sorted. No probs with 10th Sept, I'll send you a PM with details.

Cheers,
Graham
