Oldest MR2
As we are approaching the 30th anniversary of the MR2 being sold in UK, I thought it would be a good idea to compile a list of the oldest cars known to the club. I will make two lists, one by lowest VIN and the other by earliest first registration date.I will start the list with three that I know of...

Another Mk1a back on the road
After a five + year restoration, I took the Silver Fox for its MOT.
Passed with a clean sheet !!!
Now all I need to do is get it sprayed and the trim bits back on in time for Tatton !

Re: 6 speed LSD Mk1 gearbox build
Paul,
I have no technical knowledge of gearboxes but given that your long fifth gear mod also has a ratio of 0.725, what are the differences in performance between the boxes? Am I correct in assuming the six speed box will give better acceleration?

Re: Help! Routing for Lighting wiring loom
Didnt really help Jimi, but I think I have got it sorted.
I fitted the headlamp unit and when I connected the plugs I saw that the loom lay on the outside of the unit. I then went and looked at the wing and realised that the loom actually clamps to the wing.

Help! Routing for Lighting wiring loom
Its three years since I took FoXI apart and now I am trying to put it all back together again I am having a few problems. Does anyone have a diagram or picture of the routing for the headlamp/sidelamp/indicator wiring loom after it exits the frunk. I have tried to match up the plastic locating bits ...

I bought some of those but the black plastic slider that is clamped to the strut broke when I tried to clamp it. I eventually bought these http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/brake-line-kits/car/toyota/mr2-85-90/1985/1-6-aw11/black-diamond-stainless-braided-brake-hose-kit-4-line-kit as the sli...

Re: Rear control arm inner bush
I must disagree with you Peter. Why spend £125 when you can do the job for £32? I only changed mine as I was doing the rest. After 27 years and 117k miles they were still ok. Having replaced them with poly bushes I expect they will last longer than I will. Regards Douglas p.s. Yes you're right...

Re: Rear control arm inner bush
If anyone is still interested in this, I have spoken with Paul and we now seem to think that early Mk 1s did have a bush not a bearing. Below is a photo of my installation with a modified SPF 1330 bush fitted. http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab32/The_Silver_Fox_photos/2011-12-18140735.jpg Regards...

Re: Rear control arm inner bush
Alfie, Thanks for that. At least I know that I am not going senile - yet! Paul, The ones that came out were definitely the same type as the other suspension bushes, i.e. rubber with reinforcing metal layer and steel tube in the middle. They looked a proper fit with lips at each end so I am thinking ...

Re: Rear control arm inner bush
Paul,
I know that you have forgotten more than I know about MR2s but I can assure you that, unless we are talking about different things, my car has bushes. Could it be that someone has modified it previously or is it because it is an early model - built Nov 1984?
Regards
Douglas

Re: Rear control arm inner bush
Dont know about yours, but if you are talking about the end that bolts to the body then on mine its a bush. As far as I know, no one makes a poly replacement for it - HOWEVER, if you order SPF 1330, cut off the chamfer edges at each end and then measure the width of your control arm and cut out a se...

Re: Front ball joint question
Dont know if this will help or confuse you even more. The EPC for my Mk1a doesnt give a shim. The Toyota Service Manual shows a shim on each side but doesnt mention them in the removal/fitting procedures. Haynes manual (USA) as TSM. It may be that original ball joints needed a shim but later ones ha...

Re: Urgent help needed: Superflex track control arm bushes dimensions and fitting
I have recently done my mk1a with these bushes. Make sure you apply the supplied grease then press in the bush first and when thats in place insert the tube - again using the supplied grease. I used a simple bench vice to squeeze the bush into the tca with a large flat blade screwdriver to ease the ...
