Re: Swapping my motorbike for a Mk1......
bike is worth around 3250 so if i sell i could get both.........not envious that you have both at all! chop the bike in and get something fun (I run an XT660 low mileage X supermoto versions can be picked up for around 2K, but a '90s sports bike can be had for around £1.200 down to what you want a ...

have no issue posting the ecu to you, i dont have or know anyone who has an eprom reader (other than you) i'm afraid i'm sure though if it's in your hands you'd look after it! I would have thought you would need to see the entire pcb to understand it's workings? i cba to desolder it, if your intere...

Re: Tyre recommendations (standard size)?
I'm now a bit confused because I was led to believe the A Drive tyres were for everyday drivers of basic hatchback/saloon cars. There's a youtube vid about these tyres that is linked to on the Yokohama website. http://www.yokohama.com.au/videos/index.aspx?tyreid=66 It says the C drive is a step up '...

Re: Lauren's AE86. Pics on page 13.
The other thing to bear in mind is that the weakest link in that ECU is the ribbon cable interface between the two PCBs. I assume you know this already but try and avoid any repeated flexing of this cable at the connectors because it isn't really designed for this. So if someone does desolder the EP...

Re: Lauren's AE86. Pics on page 13.
Well it's an interesting car and (to me) an interesting ECU, Lauren :) Assuming the ROM code is still mostly original Denso code I could probably tell from the binary file what the switches do. My guess is that they switch in different ROM images because the 27C256 EPROM is capable of holding up to...

Re: Lauren's AE86. Pics on page 13.
If you get someone to desolder and read the standard EPROM chip contents from your modded ECU (fairly trivial task) and email me the binary file I'll tell you if it has a rev limiter and if it can be adjusted with a new binary file. I'm surprised that the EPROM chip is hard soldered into the ECU. T...

Re: Tyre recommendations (standard size)?
Yokohama C Drive2 tyres are very good standard size tyres for the mk1.
That's what I fitted to mine last year and I'm very pleased with them in terms of grip and road noise and steering feel.

Re: Diagnostics project
Although a bit dated in comparison I hooked up an old H2210 PDA to my mk1 ECU about 5 or 6 years ago. I wrote ithe code in evb and it read digital data from the factory MCU chip inside the ECU. It was most useful for displaying MPG on a long trip as it could get the rpm, vehicle speed and EFI durati...

Re: ECU Differences
I'm a bit rusty on the mk1 ECU but here's what I remember: There's three types of ECU 89661-17030 (small case size ECU) as fitted to the mk1a MR2 89661-17070 (regular case size) as per fitted to crossover mk1b 89661-17140 (regular case size) as per fitted to later mk1b The mixture screw wiring is di...

Re: Whats the record for the number of miles after the fuel light comes on?
To be fair you can drive for a while when the red light is on. Not if you drive uphill and drive at normal speeds for country roads  That's what caught me out. I drove to a place on top of the cotswolds and the light was just blinking on when I started. I'm not sure how far I drove but I got t...

Re: Whats the record for the number of miles after the fuel light comes on?
I only ever ran out of fuel once in my mk1 and that was pretty frikken scary... The best advice I can give anyone is that if the light is on and you have carried on driving for 30+ miles and the engine eventually starts to misfire due to the EFI losing fuel pressure then pull over asap in the safest...

Re: Motorway cabin noise
The last time I did a very long motorway trip in a mk1 was a few years ago where I had to get to Preston 'in a hurry' I used ear plugs and did the 130mile? trip at high speed. However, for me the worst bit is the seat as it gives me shifty dead bum syndrome after about 60 miles. Without the ear plug...

Re: Big flatspot on Bluetop 4AGE- but I think I might have an idea
Because the engine is modded and it has a modded ECU you might want to double check the O2 sensor against an AFR meter. i.e. maybe the modded ECU can't/won't allow the mixture at idle to get weak enough to let the O2 sensor toggle in closed loop. However, it's more likely the O2 sensor is simply duf...

Re: Big flatspot on Bluetop 4AGE- but I think I might have an idea
@JMR_AW11 looking at the pics it seems to be tied into the oxygen sensor and R115 That's a weird one... Maybe the trimpot calibrates a wideband (or alternative) sensor to mimic a stock narrowband sensor by aligning the switching threshold to be the same as a narrowband one. If so then it's effectiv...

Re: Big flatspot on Bluetop 4AGE- but I think I might have an idea
have nothing to dump eproms sorry am a little annoyed actually, i was hoping it would be a standard ecu so we could put a unichip or something similar on it... i guess it shouldn't be too hard to find a stock one we can use. If you refit a stock ECU you might have rev limiter issues. If it's cammed...

Re: Big flatspot on Bluetop 4AGE- but I think I might have an idea
The board looks to be about 10 or 11 years old possibly a clone of Denso design from the 80s. The trimpot is probably a crude way of fudging an analogue sensor. The clue is in the words IN and OUT on the PCB plus it looks like it connects via these two flying IN OUT wires to the ECU main connector. ...

i'm having probs with understeer in the fast long bends is there a solution or a driving technique to help. What do you mean by a fast long bend? eg quantify speed and bend? One of the most thrilling aspects of my mk1 is nailing it at silly speeds in 4th gear. I always thought it was brilliant at t...

Have you checked inside the ECU to see if it is stock?
eg look for an aftermarket piggy board with an EPROM?
