Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Cracked blocks – should I be worried?

That's true. Raptor easy to say....if you have another 1200 to add to the build cost plus the ability of getting hold of a late 5s to begin with. Anyway I'm happy and sure with my decisions so full steam ahead. Why does a 5s block build add 1200 + the block? Everything 3s will drop into a 5s block ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] cracked down pipe effect boost?

The ecu only uses the lambda sensor in closed loop, under boost it doesn't make any difference.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] How much does a Forged Piston/Rod weigh (Eagle/JE) - Stock weighs 1.35kg

There was a thread on the american forum some time ago, i believe by real street performance that had all the actual weights of aftermarket rods in.

IIRC eagles were some of the lightest.

Re: Ben's 5S-GTE Build

Aiming for a nice reliable 450-500 bhp. The sleeves are custom made for the block. Should be very interesting. Not heard of the early block cracking. But couldn't find a 98+ block at the time. Good stuff :thumleft: Yeah it will certainly be stronger than the 3s. Hard to tell from the pics but I'm g...

What power are you aiming for with this?

Which sleeves did you use?

Be interesting to see how the block holds up with sleeves seeing as it's an early 5s block :thumleft:

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Compression ratios and head gaskets

The lower the inlet temperature the more volume of air there will be in the inlet. So under compression there will be more air to compress, this will give a higher pressure and a higher temperature I always thought hotter air has more volume than colder air Yes you are right, the hot air has a bigg...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Compression ratios and head gaskets

Adam if that was a stock engine with stock turbo there is no way on earth you detonated that heavily on 99 fuel at 1.2bar of boost! You ran lean or overboosted heavily and didn't realise, and trust me it doesn't matter what CR you run if you have atht same issue it will smash your built engine to b...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Twin Turbo/Twin Charging

Can i suggest spending the money on driver training and aero/handling mods instead of just aiming for more power ? Yes, all suggestions welcome, but not sure where to go in terms of handling mods. I have a few ideas on aero, but can't be ar$ed at the minute with them. I already have coilovers, whit...

Re: GT4 alternator setup :0)

I wouldnt worry about heat issues moving it to the other side.

I'd guess more alternators are knackered by people spilling oil into them when topping up oil in the MR2 position.

As I say I'm not sure, but if every point on the maps has been tuned and reached on a hub or engine dyno then there's no other load points to tune?

Re: TRD thermostat for track use. Yes or No?

Why would they only map a base map on the engine dyno? If it's been fully mapped on the engine dyno why do they then tweak it further? (Apart from coolant temp and inlet temp corrections?). 1. coolant temp and inlet temp corrections 2. You can never fully simulate real world load on the engine on a...

So what is the solution if I take those Wiseco pistons?

Why then for standard pistons (8.8 CR) 1bar boost is OK?

1 bar boost is not ok for 8.8:1 , you will be working off the knock sensor all the time unless you run high octane fuel.

No, he won't.

Not sure why people have problems with cometic gaskets?

Re: Forged Engine Oil Consumption ??

A forged piston engine shouldn't really use any more oil than a standard engine, unless it's been built on the loose side for various reasons. Even then it should only "use" a very little extra amount over a standard engine on cold starts. Usually when people go forged they'd typically see...
