Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Black or Carbon Front Bonnet on Zircon Blue - Opinions ??

Don't really understand the whole black bonnet 'taxi cab' look myself (no offence Harry & others).

If I had a carbon bonnet I'd probably paint it body colour :oldtongue:

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Had the car weighed

Haven't you just had the gearbox changed for the N/A spec? Any idea how much that saved?

Also, what other bits have been changed from std (apart from engine!). Sounds like a pretty good result.

Is there any downside to that? How much current does it draw (car only used at weekends)?

[All] [Generic] Head unit won't hold settings

Hi, Recently bought a JVC KD-G632 head unit. All good except that it won't hold any settings. Whenever the ignition is turned off the CD or MP3 starts from the beginning, the tuner loses all the stored pre-sets and all the tone adjustments are lost. I suspect either:- 1) There's some internal batter...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Bird muck

The tip I have seen is to get a big handful of kitchen roll and soak it in warm water. Then compress this 'pack' onto the bird muck (not too hard) and leave for at least 10-15 mins. Tried it on one of our cars and have to admit, it did work pretty well. Has the bonus of being completely non-damaging...

Not sure how much original bodywork was unbolted/cut away whilst it was jacked up....but don't forget all cars are designed as a complete structure and anything removed will cause additional lack of rigidity. When I visited the BMW factory in March I saw the cars being welded together and it's aston...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Stroker Kit

As for the V6 im not sure i would like the insurance on that one. Insurance on the V6 usually comes out less than a turbo I believe. Seems a very nice engine by all accounts and a fair bit of tuning potential in that too - just starts with a big torque advantage over the 3SGE. Definitely the way I'...

Projectprelude on Croydon Lane, Sat 10th May

Hello mate, saw you coming towards me, did a u-turn at the mini roundabout and followed me for a mile or two (I was in the Burnt Orange Tigra). Didn't bother waving, not being in a '2 or anything....

Car looks good on the road, indicators shine through the tint better than I expected.

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Vented inspection panels Work in progress

Nice bit of work mate...but I can't help thinking that slot is just far too small to really do anything meaningful. :-k It's about half the size of the other ones pictured and I've got my doubts how much difference those make. If I was to do that, I'd probably cut most of it out and mesh it (tastefu...

My mate just sold his 'grale Evo 1 (looking v. similar to the one above but on 17" Azevs).....for £900!! #-o

Had been standing for quite a while and looked like the turbo had died, plus rust coming through on the A-pillars....but £900!

looks good try and bring it to japfest so we can get a look in real life. Why have they painted it black then if thats not the final colour? I believe, although I could be wrong, that black actually gives the best base for candy-style colours. Makes it deeper/richer or something. I actually like it...

Re: BMW 335i...are there two variants?

I think if your to compare the two cars, money and mods should be removed from the equasion. An MR2 could in theory be modded to be faster than a Veyron, doesnt make it a better car now does it. I totally agree with most of that. But the original post was from a guy asking if there were two version...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] red light tinting sprays

Should be OK, had the corners tinted on my Rev3 for years and never had any probs. Reversing light might be a step too far...won't really know until you try it probably.

Pic of mine for reference (only the exhaust is photoshopped  ):-

Re: BMW 335i...are there two variants?

I've heard of these things with just a chip seeing 380+ bhp To get a tubby up to 380bhp is ALOT of effort. You don't need to. It's 300kg lighter. You only need 310bhp to match the BM at 380bhp - as per your own calculations. On the pure numbers, it's really not at all difficult or expensive to get ...

Do not start with "yeah but my tubby is 787,000 bhp. It's only fair to compare standard Vs standard or modded vs modded. Why?? Surely it would be just as 'fair' to compare price with price? You could build quite a good MR2 for £30k I would think. It's all a bit irrelevant really. Don't think y...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] UniChip bypass switch

*Disclaimer*

My Unichip was fitted to a Rev3 and used the complementary Dastek boost module.

The mapper did comment that they got much better results on the Rev3 cars.

This might be why some people haven't had such happy experiences.... :-k

What Rev is the car you're looking Jon?

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] What were toyota thinking when they made the mk2

The old MR2 was prob. taken out of production because no-one was buying them, as already stated. Could be wrong but I think this comment was aimed at the NSX? Nobody was buying those because they were very expensive for a car without a 'prestige' name. And the useability/reliability didn't really m...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] UniChip bypass switch

I'm sure there's a way of bypassing it reliably, but really, why bother? If it's decently mapped you *will* get the best of both worlds, improved performance and economy. Best of all, the harder you like to drive, the more benefit you will be likely to see. Downside is, you firstly have to find some...
