Re: Torero's TRD Widebody Build Thread - Project Vendetta.

Ah ha! So you've finally gone public! Looks 'tres bon', 'tres bon' indeed! As for this pic: http://i50.tinypic.com/mvrwcl.jpg Man that makes me want to go TRD... must. resist. Cosmos probably doesn't look so good these days as the paint does dull. I think a good detail of the paint work (as illustra...

£500 per side?

I might have to pay your repair guy a visit. It's the most important repair I need to do to the car and the one I've put off the longest!

Pacific Works

Just wanted to shout out to Luke at Pacific Works. Adjusted his schedule to accomodate mine and sorted out fitting a new cambelt, alternator and belt in no time. :thumleft: The guy trailering my car up to Luke's said 'wow, you must really like this mechanic to travel 60miles for some work'. I find t...

Re: Need some guidance on DIY repair

Thanks Toxo. I decided to sack it off this morning. Car will be going to Pacific Works to get sorted. Just need to get a cheap enough trailer service. I think I could have done it/in fact I was more or less there. Just lack of tool access and strength meant I gave up! I do plan to refurb my alt thou...

If only you guys were closer.

I was just thinking earlier 'if only I had a pit/ramps'. My back is killing me!

Hats off to you both for offering the opportunity. :thumleft:

Edit. Found a thread about checking to movement in the pulley. No movement = replace. Which is my luck. Back to plan A with the added requirment of the belt. ](*,)

Re: Need some guidance on DIY repair

Might not be my alternator after all. Couldn't figure where this bit was: This will give room to slide your arm down and release the alternator tensioner. This is a long bolt that is 10mm. This connects to the top alternator fixing and allows you to tension the belt. Anyway I was just gently pulling...

Apart from that's not from an mr2 D'oh! Ideally the car would be up at yours, Luke. But it's SORN with no MOT. Trailering would cost too much so I'm gonna have a crack at it to try sort it then up to yours for a professional once over! At least I know the alt is lower down now. I'm trying to...

Re: Need some guidance on DIY repair

Thnks, good to hear! I'll be trolley jacking the car up from the sub frame. I have axle stands too - is it best to have these also on either side of the sub frame or stick to the jacking points. I'm always paranoid at how strong the sills are (or aren't) at the cars age. With the above in mind - do ...

You might want to mention the [potentially] factory fitted recaros ( I believe these were an optional extra - but happy to be told otherwise!), rota torque rims and the stainless door trims. The seats alone will get peeps popping up like meerkats! Looks a great car. Can't see it being around long. :...

Re: Need some guidance on DIY repair

Thanks for the links. I've seen those posts. I will attempt the seized fix but after I have seen how to remove it! And that's where the problem lies. Does the Toyota maintenance manual have an illustrated guide on removing the alternator? Space, tools and skill are all limited hence I need to be con...

Need some guidance on DIY repair

There are going to be a few 'dumb' questions that follow, so bear with me. I'm not good with this stuff! So I think it is my alternator that is the root cause of my problems and I have done the parasitic battery tests which have lead me to that conclusion (in amongst tons of internet/oc searches). I...

Don't suppose you have any pictures from this escapade.

Wondering if mine might be a similar situation - before I go spending out on a new alternator. (car hasn't been driven for year and I've learnt that sometimes rust build can cause the fault).

Re: Problems are like buses!

Can someone conform if amp drain (one the 10A setting) of 00.03 is considered parasitic drain?

Then I can at least rule that out and focus on the alternator tests.
