Re: adjustable cam gears - great deal?

Good spot. I'd quite like to know if these are legit because the ones I have are unmarked and quite hard to adjust accurately!

4 and 6kg/mm :thumleft:

How are you finding them? Think I saw a pic of your car wearing them!?

Re: Suspension Upgrade - Koni SSK or Coilovers

I haven't driven a mk1 with Konis but if it's any help I am really impressed with the BCs that I fitted recently. They are really smooth and comfy with the right damping setting and springs.

Re: engine takes ages to get hot

Just replaced the thermostat in the car. The one that came out had made in England written on it and didn't even have a little valve, let alone one in the right position! Proper Toyota one in there now. A quick drive after replacing/bleeding the coolant and it seems to hold temperature much better n...

Re: Retro Toyota gathering for pre-1990 Toyota Ace Cafe London 11 August

I really wanted to come last year but it clashed with some birthday plans.

This one is already in the diary so I have no excuses.

Re: engine takes ages to get hot

My car has all the symptoms described in this thread! Slow to warm up them cools itself back down if you drive at high speed for any length of time.

Is there anything it can be other than the thermostat? Because I have a new genuine Toyota one at home - hoping it'll be a fairly quick/easy fix.

I was hoping you would update this thread!

I got to go out in Vashy aka Emmett Brown's ;) car on Saturday and it certainly is a lot of fun. Really revs all the way to the red line.

Thanks to him I have also joined the HKS crew, so I'm hoping for a rolling road session of my own soon.

Re: Inside a Janspeed backbox *final pics added*

I will get my guys to cut off the pathetic 15mm wide brace across the twin pipe end and weld a wider piece on. Also towards the back side of the box, cut off and reweld the support plate. I would think about ditching the bracket completely. If you make it stronger the 'crack' will appear somewhere ...

Re: cover recommendations

I have the same one as brawr and agree that they are more than suitable for the important job of keeping your MR2 cosy.

Not cheap though at around £150.

Re: Jamex Springs

Far too stiff for road use in my opinion, I've yet to drive a Mk1 on coil overs that didn't try to knock my spine I honestly think you would be surprised by the set up on my car. BC Racing coilovers with 4 and 6kg/mm springs. On softer settings it's a smoother ride than the KYBs that were on before.

Yeah, looked like a standard version of that one, which I like a lot except for the rear bumper!

Re: Black mk1's

As for two-tone, I'm not a massive fan, though some chap on the retro rides forums did white over black (think Intital D!) and that looked awesome. /waves I once saw black aw11 in Bath town centre a couple of years back. The car was stunning! It had a gold decal set I think. Never saw it since and ...

So it could be literally anything then. Oh well thought it was worth asking.

Thanks for replying! And Lauren, no I have done plenty of stupid things but leaving the oil cap off isn't one of them yet ;)

Oil Leak

There is a slight oil leak on my MR2, which was noted in my most recent MOT. Even though it didn't fail I would quite like to sort it out. The garage wanted £55 extra to diagnose it for me though so I thought I would check here first to see if it was a common problem that could be diagnosed without ...

Yes, somebody has already called first dibs on it though I'm afraid. It seems the noise doesn't put a lot of people off. Mentalists ;)

Re: Inside a Janspeed backbox *final pics added*

Interesting!

Weirdly, this thread coincides with me failing my MOT. Just got the car back and it's (you guessed it) excessive exhaust noise.

I'm giving up with my Janspeed and going for a quiet, custom system.

This is how they sit in the arch. Bear in mind that I have my coilovers round right down in this pic and yes, the arch lip does foul the tyre.
