Re: Mk2 2gr supercharged

Are there going to be any MR2s left that you haven't done an engine swap on by the time you're finished? After 20 years it already feels like I've worked on them all! I do hope that you find the time to complete this car, as it has quite a lot of interesting mods done to it. That's what drew me to ...

Re: Mk2 2gr supercharged

I'm afraid nothing is going to happen in the short term with this, I have a 1 year waiting list on customer engine conversions.

Re: SMOKE!

Also it may be a more serious repair than you've bargained for, take the head off and inspect the block around number 4 cylinder, they are notorious for deep pitting here and can render an engine as scrap, no amount of replacement gaskets will fix it. On every 4a-ge I've inspected after a HG failure...

Re: 4AGZE Blowing Noise

#2 is too low, probably a leaking valve or ringland issue, perhaps even HG. I'm going to take the cam covers off first to check if there are any extra large gaps in valve clearances If you think about it larger valve clearances won't lower the CR at all, it would need to be an extra tight clearance ...

Re: 4AGZE Blowing Noise

I even took off 2 HT leads with the engine running and it made no difference at all.

If you did that then the engine must only be running on two cylinders!

Removing any HT lead should instantly change the way the engine sounds/runs.

Post up a video of it running and maybe we can help diagnose it.

Re: Mk2 2gr supercharged

They get very much overlooked being an older Porsche and rejected by the 911 fanboys as "not a real Porsche" , but the styling is perfect, the handling is amazing, perfectly balanced car, not the fastest thing on the road in NA form but enough to make you smile. I have taken styling cues f...

Believe it or not the 944 is one of the best handling older cars I've ever driven, awesome car.

Re: Mk2 2gr supercharged

Nothing new I'm afraid, so frustrating wanting to work on the car but life just getting in the way, hopefully get a good session on it next week. This is one of four project cars I own which says a lot about my hobby/addiction, so balancing which car gets my time is hard, I really need to think abou...

It's rotten in there though, the steel is too far gone and needs replacing.

Re: Front suspension lower arm body pick up with pictures - help needed.

Agreed, it's the internal part of that area that you cannot get access to unless the mounting point is chopped out, as I mentioned above you could plate up the external easy to get at bits and It will last a year or two, but you really do have a ticking time bomb on your hands internally.

No problem, it's by far the biggest enemy we face as Mk1 owners.

Re: Front suspension lower arm body pick up with pictures - help needed.

Having restored many Mk1s over the last 20 years I'm not afraid of encountering rust in any area of the car, sills, floors, door posts, roof sections etc can all be repaired easily. http://i.imgur.com/Pxt2g8H.jpg However that area in question has seen many a Mk1 off to the breakers yard, the reason ...

Re: Mk2 2gr supercharged

Ok so following a few nudges from people to update the project we decided to put a few hours into the car. I've managed to source a second hand Yellow speed racing big brake conversion kit, these feature 6 pot front calipers on 325mm bell mounted discs, and a 300mm four pot rear caliper with integra...

You're welcome, notice I said "fit" not "buy", so not technically a sales pitch :D , I'm sure I have an old choke kit you can have if it came to that.

Re: High Idle

It's not necessarily air in the system, if you are 100% sure it has no air in the coolant then it is more likely to be a seized waxstat cold idle valve. You can diagnose this by blocking off the 5p sized hole inside the throttle body with your finger while the engine is running, if it stalls or drop...

Re: Camry v6 Idler Pulley

Possibly, you will always get some that work fine without issue, however I have seen a LOT of Ford pulley failures over the years, it could well be slight over-tensioning causing that, but the Camry idler won't break no matter what tension you put on it. Basically it's a crap plastic part that's jus...

Re: Camry v6 Idler Pulley

You're welcome, I have no idea why they use that cheap plastic Ford part, probably comes down to costs, but the Camry idler isn't exactly expensive.
