REV 3 TUBBY vs SL55 AMG

Post by doeboy »

i was on my way back from the ace cafe meet last tues 3rd of may when at a set of lights up next to me pulled a merc SL55 AMG and up behind that pulled a vanquish.

so as you can imagine adrenalin and forward thinking got the better of me and i could see the guy in the merc lookin at my 2,
probably thinkin what a cheap xxxx car.

he then thought he would probably show me a real car and as the lights went green and the cars in front of us moved far enough ahead he put his foot down a blasted past me, so i set my boost on a bar and cut in behind him in between him and the vanquish.

Mmmmm a tubby sandwich

so we where both goin flat out and i was having to let off to stop me from piling into the back off him,
then i found a gap and seized my oppurtunity and left him for dust,
and on passing him i noticed his window was open so i couldn't resist but to let my hks blow off valve sneeze in his ear hole.

god i love the dump valve

and best of all i showed him how it doesn't matter how much you spend on the fancy sports cars of today,
u just can't beat the old turbo'd jap beasts :D

What specs your 2 then mate? Must be something pretty special as those AMG Mercs are seriously quick.... as are Vanquishes.

there was a post by Top Gear Towers and it proved that the MR2 can stay infront (slighlty) with an SL55 AMG upto about 80mph.... after that obviously its a different matter!

Either your car is seriously modded or he wasn't trying Id say.

Those 55 AMGs have over 500lb-ft torque! 0-60 is a shy over 4 secs.

A completely standerd Rev3 tubby pulls the 0-60 in low 5's! Does this help you believe :D

as someone else pointed out - bit of a broad question to which you can only answer yes AND no

yes - they have got better through constant r & d and the implementation of all the safety features that have been introduced over the years ie - better crash protection, better brakes etc (disclaimer - doesnt always mean a better drive imo 8-[ ) BUT

no - all these things make the car heavier and combined with all the new rules that have been introduced over the years (a combination which makes newer cars slower) like emissions/noise/safety features etc makes the car less fun to drive which leads to -

as a side note, apparently the new bmw 5 series has enough computing power to fly a boeing 747 so shouldnt be long before you can just kick back and relinquish control of the car to...erm...the car  :?
how fun would that be :(

ok

thanx for the technical bs ](*,)

the original post wasn't actually a question, it was a post about my
DRIVING EXPERIENCE ](*,)

which then led onto a poll on your opinion on what SPORTS cars are better?](*,)

not which cars heavier? or
which car is safer?

who gives a xxxx about safety, mr2's are about having fun 8)

One of my bosses has an SL55. I will be picking my new tubby up over the next coupleof weeks, and he has challenged me to a duel. But we need to get onto a track or a strip first.

I thought 0-60 on the sl was 4.7 ish?
Bear in mind MB over estimate their cars capabilities. I say nearer five wold be realistic according to all the reviews from autocar etc

I understand this was while you were going on a rolling start.

If this is true then the chap in the SL55 AMG was a b0ll0x driver. Dino with around 350BHP just about nudged ahead against one of these.

I find it hard to believe, but i am taking nothing away from you.

Don't wana get into an argument with you mate...but for the Merc you don't even have to change gear...you just mash the accelerator 8)

Why the hell would someone wanna tune an AMG SL55...LOL :-k ... people buy because its already tuned!

All i am saying is i find it hard to believe. That doesnt mean to say it never happened! Keep your hair on :^o  :P

You should give a f*ck cos i smell something fishy...

Ok you "WON" the race...fair play, i can't take that away from you, but i really don't think the SL55 AMG was going flat out :o

Here is an example comparing the straigtline speeds of the two. We have a dual carriageway here in Coventry about a mile along. 1/2 a mile down there is a bridge. From one end we go flat out and record our indicated speed just as we pass the bridge. I with 325BHP (on a tight ar$e dyno) recorded 128MPH. My friend done it recently in his SL55 AMG and he did 155MPH by the bridge. Basically he hit his electronic speedo limiter before the 1/2 mile mark.

Just something to note, an SL55 AMG is probably on par if not faster then a Ferrari F430 and Porsche GT3...if you can hang with an SL55 AMG you can hang with these big fish 8)

Good for you though...
