H4 HID Kit Interest?

Post by Speedy »

Hi,
Both the mk1, mk2 and mk3 use h4 bulbs for headlights, now the evenings are drawing in, wouldn't it be nice to change those oil burning lamps for something a bit brighter.

We've got a supplier who will do them for £135 delivered - need 10 people to express interest. These are 'e' marked, and I've been assured that they are road legal for the UK.

Pics / more technical information to come.

<added - technical information>

Some more details from our Supplier:

These Hi - Density Discharge kits are completely plug and play and will take no longer than 30 minutes to install.

Complete with

Two HID lamps,
Two ballasts,
Wire harness
Installation accessories and instruction brochure

Also one year warranty and a 3,200 hour unit life

These will not only outperform your current headlights by nearly 3 times that of halogen they will perform your night time driving experience and also give your car a modern look from passers by.

Please note these HID kits are not the cheapest around but are made with Philips IC ballast's and complete with a one year warranty

HID kits are available in the following colour temperature

Please note the highest rating is not the brightest 6k and 8k are most popular in the UK and what we would recommend

6K for a white emitting light
8k for a purple / blue emitting light

4300K, 6000k, 8000k, 10000k, 12000k

Kits are available for ALL types of vehicles the MR2 requires a H4 HI/LOW combined bulb output although if you would like a different bulb fitment please include this with your name below the single bulb fitments are slightly cheaper than the combined lamp required for MR2.
Have a good day!

Any idea how these compare to the Raybrig conversion sets? I may be interested, but at twice the price, there'd better be a significant improvement...! (But anything to help make night driving safer is a plus)

the raybrigs lenses help , but the major fault in the original setup is the bulbs , i have tried 3 different types of bulbs in both my original lamps and my raybrig lenses , and the lights still aren't satisfactory , might have to evaluate my finances before xmas and see if i can afford to get some of these in my stocking

Okay, so this could be used in conjuntion of the Raybrig set. Hmmm, may put off the Raybrig purchase then and pick these up now with this group buy and get the Raybrigs next year...
One more question, can the installation of these be completely removed? That is, if I want to sell my car can I take these out and leave no trace of them, or do the larger boxes require a permanent fixing of some sort?

Cheers.

Edit: Although I hopefully shan't need it, who is the one year warranty honored by - supplier or manufacturer? It's just that I may not be able to install for a couple of months so won't actually know if they work or not till then...

How do they flip between hi and low beam?

Problem with HID is they take forever to warm up, making hi beam HID pointless (hence most manufacturers still use halogen for full beam)

some get round it by tilting the bulb down on a sloinoid, and others have a moving sheath. just wondered which techniqe these ones use?

Monkeymax - Installation can be completely removed no hacking into existing wires

injury_ian - The H4 combination kit is a non mechanical halogen / xenon combination

Pete - I can get some exact measurements for you wieght wise probably no more than 1- 1.5kg

They aren't HID hi and low beam though :-s

IMHO £135 for a HID hi beam kit is pretty good value, hence my name is down for one.

Rather than make a glancing statement, would you care to expand on why you think this?
