MR2BEN Sill replacement tips

Post by yokomomr4bx »

I've started the process of replacing the full O/S sill using the offering from mr2ben. I was wondering if anyone with experience of fitting these would be able to offer any tips...as far as I can tell, the profile is not quite the same as the stock sills? Can I also assume then that no one has tried to cut these into sections to attach to existing sills due to the profile difference?

Specifically I would like to know whether it is better to tack the top first then the bottom or vice versa?

Any experience would be much appreciated :)

Top side then bottom
Drill some holes in the bottom and then clamp it and spot weld it down
I've got photos if you tell me how to post them :thumleft:

Thanks, that's what I had imagined.

Sure, easiest way is to create an Imgur account, upload your photos and then copy and paste the forum code from the photos into the text box on here...it's quite intuitive once you've uploaded the photos.

Those I'd love to see, did you fabricate new panels or cut replacements off a donor car?

I have photos of quarter and rear panel replacement I undertook a few years ago, full photos on my build thread but whilst you're here... The top image is the donor car BTW!

Realistically you need to cut panels from a donor car and join them at the least conspicuous place i.e. pillars and sill. I couldn't comment on whether this would be practical for rust...though I guess it depends on how extensive the rust is and how many laminations it has penetrated.
