[Mk2] [Turbo] Halfords oil filter part codes?

Post by BALDYMONSTER »

I rarely use Halfrauds for anything but I don't have time to go anywhere else today, tried to tell them I need an oil filter for a revision 3 MR2 turbo and as usual they asked the reg plate so I had to explain it's a conversion and it all went downhill from there predictably.

I don't suppose anyone on here could help with the part codes?

A Toyota dealer will have the filter in stock, it's not a special order item. Why risk it? I doubt the Halfords filter is that good.

If you insist of using Halfords look in the booklet there and see if they have any Celica GT4 filters thats what i used to use years ago that is the right filter with the valve in, MR2 turbo wont be in there and the MR2 filters are for the n/a and are too small.

Halfords is on the way to where I'm going and I need it done today so that's the choice.

I change my oil and filter every 3000 miles anyway.

the toyota filter isn't that expensive and it's used in the Yaris I think too so easy off the parts counter. Why scrimp on silly things, buy two while you are there. Simples.

I thought I'd made it clear that for whatever reason I had to use halfrauds on this occasion?

Again, I change the oil every 3000 miles so using a cheaper filter this once is hardly going to make sfa difference.

You haven't owned the car from new though so there could be anything in there. Mate. Folk are trying to give you advice. Don't throw it back in peoples faces. If it makes no difference, Then why even bother changing it 2000 miles before the service interval. Buy a Toyota filter. You wouldn't put mineral oil in it if Toyota recommend semi synthetic would you?

Just see if you can get a GT4 filter from Halfords, it will be as good as any other OEM. Ignore the people telling you otherwise based on forum science. In the real world it will be fine, does anyone really thing its going to be a problem using a decent oil with a filter from Halfords?

I'll be honest Ryan while I might have my own opinion on filters, if I was using a good quality synthetic which I always did, changing every 3k is throwing money away imo.

Opieoils supply a MANN filter for the GT4/Rev3 Turbo. According to them it meets the same spec as the OEM one, never had a problem with em. Haven't used an oe filter on my car for years.
