Any way to locate discontinued oem parts?

Post by MR2TRD8 »

I was looking for a brand new set of rear lights and corner triangles.

Toyota have stock for the passenger rear light and the two triangles but the drivers light is out of stock. Does anyone know where a new one could be found?

mr2 ben
If you see an MR2 with a raised engine cover, the bottom line is it's probably faster than your car.

Have you tried mr t? I got my anniversary sills, and usa red corners from my ,
Local mr t, cheaper than other mr2 "specialists"

All my anti squeal shims, odd bolts etc they are my first stop, sometimes
I get them on the same day.

If find a nice freindly parts manager you can get at trade.

I am surprised how many people don't try Mr T first, always helped me out.

Parts

Yes Iv tried toyota, that's who informed me the drivers rear light is nla, checked uk stock and Japan, they are very helpful Iv had lots of bits off them recently.

I know with other cars some dealers can have random stock so I know the chances are somewhere in a dealership there's a brand new driver side rear light stored under old stock but it's finding it.

I've emailed mr2ben but he is listing it as nla too, there's nothing really wrong with the ones on the car, but it would be nice to have new ones

Hi

On reflection that going to be a expensive item to get new now.

I will ask my guy at Toyota if he can suggest anywhere, he got me a few items I could find elsewhere

Or i suppose the USA?

Are you looking for JDM ones or UK spec ones? As the UK spec ones are slightly different iirc

If you managed to get hold of a used light for the other side I can vouch for how well they come out with a rub down and re-lacquer. I had mine sorted about 2 years ago when the car having a full respray and they still look mint. No orange peel or crazing etc.

I'd imagine they were probably sanded back to something like 1500-2000 grit and then a couple of clear coats :thumleft:

I'll look into refurbing the drivers one.

I bought new passenger side and the two triangles just a shame the drivers is nla.

There's been a couple of other items nla too when Iv been buying bits so if your thinking of doing a restoration I would get onto it while the parts are still there!
