[Mk2] [Turbo] Injector leak

Post by Ryan S »

So car's been running fine, Got the issues with the map sorted. I was actually about to take it for a run today then thought I'd do a final check for leaks. I have a fuel leak from either the rail or no.3 injector. The seals are split new. I actually whipped out the injector and replaced the seal with another split new one just incase. I can't tell if the leak is from the rail to head seal or the injector seal. All seals are new anyway. Any ideas?

Tested with engine off and still leaking so can't be rail to head seals. Must be the injector or the seals. As I said seals are brand new though. Head scratcher!

Remove, inspect for damage, check the bore the injectors sit in is nice and clean, try again. Make sure you definitely have the right size seals/o rings too.

Think that's the next step. The leak only started today too. All other injectors are fine. I did check the part no. of my other seals and they matched. I am missing the spacer between the rail and the head so I fear I may have bent the rail. Not that it's overtight or anything but it is a bit of guesswork lining it up. Gonna test it tomorrow now as I have to go to work.

I'm not too sure Jim as I've only visually checked it with the rail attached to the head. But head to rail seems unlikely as it's leaking with the engine (therefore injectors) off. I can only see three seals per injector on the diagram? I think the leak may be from nearest the plug part. Seems to be coming out there but again not 100% until i test it when not fitted to the head.

if its not obvious, definitely worth removing rail from head, keep everything connected, and do the bridge fuel pump trick. i think B+ and FP
(dont crank or turn car on)

youll soon see where the leak is coming from with the rail in your hand.

theres 2 that seal the fuel in.
then 1 upper (like a dust seal) and 1 lower.

then the obvious chunky rail seals

I'm running a link g3 but I have a relay in the boot I can turn the pump on. I'm missing the dust seals but head seals and both injector seals are new. Will see where this is coming from in the morning.

Right, So it looks like I'm missing seals 23291. Dunno how I've managed to miss this as I bought all new seals from Toyota as well as got new seals with the injectors. Either way I'll have to get them.

Did you get the complete engine gasket and seal kit (around £200 or so)?

That would have come with those.

I did mate. I ended up with loads of extra injector seals. I got seals with my SARDs as well as went and got them from Toyota not knowing they were in the gasket kit. Unfortunately a lot of wee bits were lost when I moved out of my old house when I split with the ex. Moved the mr2 very hastily :(

I may take you up on that Jim. I never actually checked to see if that lower most seal (not the two to seal the fuel in) was actually in the rail. The injectors are an extremely tight fit so here's hoping! I'll get in touch tomorrow after I investigate and see where the leak is from. Good news is I've no oil or water leaks haha!

Hey Jim, I won't be needing that seal kit mate. Just checked the rail today and it is in fact cracked right behind the injector. I've sourced another rail so will get it sorted after xmas.

Not seen a cracked rail before.

Worth fitting the other seals though for piece of mind.
