Smell and smoke with MK1

Post by Tim Marx »

Hello, I have a MK1 MR2. Sometimes, when driving it, there is a burning smell, and a small amount of smoke comes from below the cloth/fabric surrounding the gear lever. Can anyone tell me what the issue is likely to be? Tim, Kingston Upon Thames.

Tim, not sure there's a huge amount around there that should be making smoke! Does it smell electrical? How is the cars fuelling? (the fuel pump is around there)

Smoke

You need to get to the bottom of that one ASAP!! The fuel tank is directly below the gear lever. If you have an electrical fault with the in tank fuel pump or the fuel level sender or associated wiring you could have a very exciting time!
