[Mk2] [Turbo] Boost controller install - boost too high?

Post by SonicSW20 »

Just plumbed in the solenoid as per the instructions here - http://www.greddy.com/upload/file/Profec_manual.pdf

Turbo is a CT26 Hybrid of some sort on a Gen3 3SGTE.

With the stock TVSV, it would peak at 14psi or so at most and then drop down to around 12.5 to 13psi and taper off.

With the boost controller now connected it's hitting 16.2PSI with the boost controller set value set to 0%. With the value at 0%, it should be at wastegate pressure.

What could cause this?

You have it plumbed as per the instructions on page 13?

Did you connect the output from the solenoid to the waste gate port pointing towards the front of the car?

The one pointing towards the rear of the car needs to be blocked off, but even if it wasn't you'd be getting low boost rather than higher.

surely if the 2nd port (or any other leak in the actuator plumbing) would lead to higher boost as the spring wouldn't see as much boost as there really is, due to some of it escaping?

The two ports on the actuator are on two different sides of the diaphragm.

All sorted, split in one of the hoses!

Martin - are you sure that's right for a stock CT series actuator? I don't think the stock CT series actuator is the same as two port external wastegates like in that diagram.

Yeah I think the stock one is single chamber. Off to google myself wrong.

Hmm, no pictures but the BGB shows the 2 ports sharing a space on one side of the diaphragm.

Yeah apologies, looks like our wastegate valve is a little different.

Glad you're sorted.

Yeah all sorted. Takes a bit of setting up, just about got the low boost setting sorted at 14psi pretty stable. It actually *feels* less powerful on low as previously it would spike up a bit more before tailing off so it loses that initial shove slightly but it holds the boost for longer so it's actually faster.

Still working on the high setting, it's tricky to find somewhere to perform the yobbo pulls to really get it set up right.

I believe this unit can do scramble on a switch as well, so it may be possible to set scramble up to trigger in 3rd gear for example.

@Jim - remember I had to top up a bit of coolant at the Kent run? Turned out there was a leak. Pretty sure it's sorted now, need to run it and see.
