Shane's rev 5 turbo,mapped 569 BHP, For Sale

Post by shane34 »

So I've never done a build thread before, although I've had rev 3 turbos for about 12 years, I've just never been interested in engine tweaks or modding, the last one I owned for 5 years didn't even get a mbc fitted and I never de restricted it. I don't tend to drive fast it just nice to know it's there when the time is right. I think the greatest feeling is starting the engine the sound of it just makes me smile. Oh and definitely it's looks.

So due to a change in what type of mr2 I own i thinks about time i started one. Right now I do not plan on doing any power enhancing mods as it's fast enough for my once a month drive. Lol. But watch this space i respect the car but it does not scare me so who knows :)

So the story behind the car, Some may know that I bought a car from julian(top guy) with everything pretty much complete ready to drive at a very brutal 2.1 bar boost. What a world of difference 1 bar extra makes in performance compared to my old mr2.

I have to emphasise the great work by julian in picking that parts and accessories that has formed the car to what it is. I'll be honest most of the items are new to me, im learning about each part as I go. Which is the fun part for me.

So my plans for the car. Basically remove any rust from sub frames arms etc and re paint. Ill also Replace any items that are not as new. Cancer bar for example.

So the spec list. I'll have to copy this from the for sale thread as there is to much to remember

Gone of the days of laying down. I can happily sit upright and do stuff.

A bit of cleaning a painting. Also drill and tapping the old sheered undertrays bolts.

One of my oil leaks is in The below image

My second oil leak seems to be the near the distribution cap area where it bolts to the head.
Probably a better view from the top, this was underneath without the subframe in place etc.

Brilliant car you have bought yourself there buddy...

A lot of the components surrounding the engine were from one of my old builds (2 years a go) and I watched this car being built up (apart from the engine block itself) at YVS performance where it was put together.
It was a pleasure to have been able to see this being built up back then and it will be a pleasure to watch as you develop it yourself and make the changes you are setting out to do.

I hope you enjoy it buddy :) lovely car indeed!

Bit of an update, pictures to follow

Had a few small issues nothing to really worry about, typical 2 life!

the idea was to find the oil leak, the smell of petrol and To investigate the lack of braking assist!

5 months later, I've found 2 oil leaks, spread sensor O ring and the distributer O ring, can not source the petrol smell as yet. The braking I've not looked at yet!

Did a few other bits mind you

While the sub frame was off this got a fresh coat of black paint the anti roll bar and track rods got a nice coating of gold.
The missus painted the petrol tank front subframe and the radiator housing which was a bonus.

Fitted the toms front lower brace. Will paint at some point

Fitting new cancer bars, not sure why!

Fixed the subframe main fixing point, the chassis bolt was stripped.

Polished the intake pipes.

painted the inlet manifold, and filed out the burrs on the inside from the vacuum lines

Image

Removed any oil residue, contact cleaner works wonders.

In the process of fitting the Tomcat recaros to Oem runners, with a standard seatbelt mounting point. 1 complete, drivers side of coarse!
Image

Items to do/fit

Fix the Phoenix power engine lid the fixing point has pulled through
Fit the Carbon fiber bonnet carbon areo catches

Front fog lights
Tom front cross member
Toms rear cross member
Fixing the braking issue/ possibly upgrade to 4 pot fronts. Need more info on this 1st!
Pop up to fensport for a map tweak,😜

Then to make some shows and give Santapod a go!

Next project for the car after the above will be a Major exhaust change, need to do some measuring and research!

Ordered this
Image

MGL Avionics TC-1 4-Channel Digital Thermocouple

the plan is to monitor each manifold pipe. will need to mod the Inconel, there are 2 ports already blocked on this, im sure they will be simple enough to do.

Bit of an update. Pictures and video to follow.

I decided to upgrade change a few parts.

I didn't like the exhaust that was on the car, quite loud and although it looked good it wasn't what I wanted. This system had a total of 9 short radius or cut bends it wasn't pretty. the bore was around 73mm. I wanted a more free flowing system, I also I didn't want to put the heat of the exhaust into the flow of the boot mount inter cooler chute this along with The screamer pipe basically discharged into it aswell.

So I'm pretty much here now, took a lot of work and I mean a lot. I've decided to go over the engine and out through the back above the boot mount between the lights.

The new system has 2 long radius bends and 1 x 45 degree, the pipe is of a 80MM bore, 2mm thick. I have made a split silencer with each side equal with the idea on making some active valves. The hole system is wrapped with ceramic wool rated to 2000 degrees, ive then completely Titanuim wrapped over the top. I can touch the exhaust all the way to the 1st bend next to the turbo housing.

The screamer pipe is side exit now, and it's amazing to hear with the window open, the last setup was twice as long and had around 6 bends, the new set up has 2 bends and 1 x 45 degree. I didn't penetrate the mesh when exiting the after a few tests it penetrated itself, the exhaust gasses melted the aluminium fine mesh.ill be replacing with stainless and some hi temp black paint.

My next plan will be to move the inter cooler below the boot with a bigger chute maybe a 3rd fan, Now I have no exhaust I have plenty of room to make so guiding fins into the direction of the inter cooler and then through the boot.

I have also installed my 4 way manifold temp sensors into the inconel manifold, early days yet but it seems to be working out ok I need to check and calibrate them by switching sensors around to confirm that they are reading the Same temps.

I've started the boot lid mod with the NA engine louvers in just above the exhaust silencer. Undecided how to do this yet. I have a perfect fitment with my cut outs, I'm not sure welding it would be the best way due to heat warping. Fiber glass and filler? No idea yet may speak with a body shop? Anyone got a recommendation in Kent?

I need to make the pannel between the lights this will be mesh and metal opposed to plastic.

Going forward
Thinking about bigger injectors and a motect rotoary switch to adjust he boost settings, then I'm pretty much done! Famous last works.
