Here are some pictures of how it looked when I first picked it up.

So the first think I did was to remove all the crap out of the car so I could start to remove the neon lighting and excess wiring out the car.

I then set about removing the decals from the Windscreen, rear quarter and the shopping lists off the bonnet

Next I emptied the boot the find 2 inchs of crappy old broken hardboard <_<

I then washed, clayed and machine polished the car for the remainder of the yesterday and today.

Oh and I found a better use for my recycling bin too

I found that the rear lights were really dull and faded so I machine polished those as well :D

I think it made a massive difference so I would definetly recommend it :)

So here's the end results, still got to finished of the interior and fit the stereo but I'm happy with the progress so far :)

Ok so recently I have just been buying lots of parts, here's the list

-New centre console (to replace the resprayed tatty black one)

-New handbrake lever (last week had been hacked about in a poor attempt by the previous owner to fit an aftermarket sleeve)

- JP Performance SMIC

- JP Performance Decat

- Apexi Power FC boost controller

- Dark crystal indicators

- 17" unknown alloys with polished lip

- 4 x Marshall tyres thanks to Sam ;)

So I still have lots to do but today I have fitted my new wheels and tyres and removed the crappy shopping list off both doors

I have been doing some more work on the 2 during the week.

I managed to chase an oil leak to the rocker cover gasket so I had the strip off the throttle body to get the rocker cover off, some whilst I had it apart I started to polish the throttle body and it's components

I then refurbed the rocker cover which im really happy with as it started out like this

And here is the end result :)

Another quick update:

Tonight I finished the rocker cover, installed the new gasket and refitted it, I also fitted the new thermostat.

I should hopefully get it all back together by the end of the week.

Just a quick pic with the rocker back on

Another update, I have now changed the thermostat and put everything back together.

I'm happy with how its starting to look now under the bonnet :)

I ran it tonight to get it up to temperature however it still wont go above a 1/4 if the way on the temperature guage even after 20mins :( so I'm guessing that its either the temperature sender or an airlock so it will still need some further investigation!

Need to get the new alternator fitted and then I will be taking into Nathan at Century Motorsport for him to fit the Apexi AVCR and also the decat.

Here are some proper pics of the engine bay as it is now

Superb, my plan for winter is to sort the engine bay, think matt black maybe the way to go, did you hand paint the lettering or is it a badge?...

No mate it's not paint, I filled the letters after the paint had hardened ;)

Ok so first the bad news :(

I have put in a lot of effort on the MR2 and this a couple of months ago I dropped the car into Nathan at Century to have the following: New alternator and belt, Aircon removed, decat fitted, oil and filter change, fuel filter, FCD and finally the Apexi AVCR fitted :)

So once its was all done i collect the car from his unit and I'm driving back and the cars still quite sluggish :( and only showing 0.6 bar of boost, so I  slowly start to increase the boost over the next few miles of motorway and it climbs upto 0.7 and starts to feel a bit better so I pushed on and it reaches 0.84 bar and starts to feels good

However heres where everything starts to go wrong im approaching the slip road so I back off and leave the M42 then I accelerate again on the slip road although this time the car makes some strange noises on boost

I try again on the dual carriageway into Redditch  and things are getting worse, so i pulled over at the end and the cars struggling to idle and starting to knock :( I limp it home and spend the next hour trying to diagnose the fault and decided Cylinder 4 isnt firing.

So Nathan kindly came over to have a look with me and spent about an hour checking everything before compression testing it, the verdict is that it has lost compression on cylinders 3 and 4 most likely due to piston rings!

Ok so now the good news :)

After a long debate I have finally bitten the bullet and decided to do a forged built, I'm not going for massive power but aiming towards 350bhp

Once the engine works finished i'm fitting Tom's Side skirt and it will be resprayed, not to sure on the colour yet

So my first purchase has been this new set of Wiseco 86.5 forged pistons

Image

The other parts Im buying over the next couple of weeks are:

ARP Head bolts
ARP rod bolts
Cometic MLS Head Gasket
Engine Gasket set
ACL race Bearings
New water pump
New oil pump
Cambelt and idlers

Then the cars off to Nathan for the rebuild :D

I have also bought a new Japspeed exhaust and Rev3 rear lights!
