New factory built widebody Monocraft GT300 car project

Post by ilogik »

Had been after one for over a year, and with it being only 1 of 2 genuine cars in the country, I thought it was never going to happen.

Luckily ( or not so luckily) the old owner didn't really look after the car and ended up blowing up the engine.

Car was bought without an engine, so it left me some room to do as I pleased.

Working out the cost differences in fitting a 1zz I decided that I might as well pay extra and go for a 2zz with a 6 speed box. Im currently waiting for that to go in at Rogue, who im sure will do a cracking job, especially after seeing recent work/projects they are working on.

I plan on restoring it as it is not 100% perfect, paint work is messy but can easily be done at a later stage.

Work so far

Bought all parts for 2zz swap
Fitted hardtop, hard top being painted, rear big wing removed and painted.
BC racing coilovers fitted

Stuff to do:

remove the soft top

Couple of pictures of the car

Spoiler remove and hardtop off for painting

as far as im aware they are built at monocraft factory for Toyota, much like the Toms MR-S, I have done a fair amount of research but always come full circle with it.

Original cars all seemed to come with eithe cusco tein coilovers, works wheels, the arches are deeper.

here is the other uK car, it looks somewhat different now though being red with lambo doors

got it for 2.8k, guy had recipts from 2 years ago buying it for 10k :|

Little update:

Long awaited updated, project is going a lot slower than Id like it to be.

Few pics with the big gay wing gone and the hard top painted up :)

Car was painted at Haywoods for free bump. Paint is aftermarket and the match seems good so can't complain as some places struggle to match after market paints.

Just a quick Q:

I'm curious about the panel thickness, as I have read that the original Monocraft bodykit was very thin / light , made for racing, and would not last too long with day-to-day use........?

Is it "flimsy", or is this a bit of a myth....?

umm it seems pretty solid and considering its a 10 year old car, it seems in far better condition than i had expected. Im having some support brackets made up on front bumper.

You can buy a replica kit from a few sources or a genuine car either import or there is a red one in the UK, they seem quite rare but vary in spec.
