I've a 2000 Mk3 nearing 60K miles.
I've been advised to check/replace timing belt, I've also been told the Mk3 has a timing chain as opposed to a belt?
Can someone confirm please?
I imagine a chain doesn't require changing?????
Many thanks in advance...

Heh, who told you to replace the belt - no, don't tell me.. Toyota?
It's a chain on the 1ZZ-FE engine that doesn't require maintenance.
It does require periodic inspection if I remember the service schedule correctly, in case it's loose - however in all honesty, if it's not correctly tensioned you'll know about it, as it'll be rattly as hell.
So, in short - chain, not belt. Doesn't require replacement. Please batter whoever told you it did around the head with a wet haddock.
