If any of you MR2 turbo drivers get a chance, race a GT4 and reply to this msg. Or if you have. Whats the likley outcome?

Depends if it was a straight 1/4 mile.

How do you vote?

edit - I'm sure those buttons weren't there before, I'm gonna hit that golden retriever if I ever find my white stick.

Going by what I understand with launching, etc. The MR2 would be quicker off the line (no 4wd loss), weighs less (is that right) so I'd expect it to win slightly.

I think the celica weighs less than the mr2 (surprisingly) but yeah the mr2 has a lower drivetrain loss

Depends on the spec (and revision of the 2) of each car. If you're talking standard then i'd say the MR2 as it has the same power output but weighs less. I believe the st205 weighs in at around 1450kg, plus the drivetrain losses would make a difference too. If you're talking modified then obviously it's anyones guess, depending on whats been done.

When I had a GT4 (ST185) i tried to wheelspin it from standing start, dont think I managed but it did shoot forward pretty fast.

I'd say GT4 as a 4wd is far easier to launch.

Can't argue with the logic. The MR2 gets my vote for the fastest. Quarter-mile figures (unmodified) for both cars would help, though.

At a guess id say the 2 going on opinions, but I have a seen a modified 2 tare strips of a modded GT4 on the 1/4, dont know what spec they were both running though.

Its gotta be the '2
Even if a GT4 can get more power down due to traction at launch the MR2 doesnt have the drivetrain losses of the GT4 and will therefore have more power at the wheels, an advantage for the whole run not just the initial launch.
I would guess that the GT4 could break away for the first 10 yards but would then be reeled in very quickly.
On paper the 0-60 time of the mr2 is quicker than the GT4 by a second or so.
A 1/4 mile in a standard MR2 turbo is roughly equivelent to a 0-100MPH sprint.
