rev4 n/a to rev3 turbo conversion

Post by paul_4xxxx »

been thinking of doing this for the last 2 years and now im well on the way..

i just purchased a rev3 rear clip so i have began stripping my car down to make way for the new power plant

pictures to follow...

firstly i removes both rear wishbones, then exhaust
then i went on to the boot. i removed the ecu and all wiring to the rear lights and fed the loom through into the engine compartment

then into the passenger compartment. i pulled the drivers seat out, glove box between the seats and the center console, then removed the gear cables and fed them through to the engine compartment.

next up was the wiring loom to the passenger footwell, i unpluged all the connectors and started pulling the tape off the wires, there are 2 thick wires that need to stay... i worked my way back seperating these 2 wires from all the others and undone all the connectors all the way to the rear bulkhead...

i have sold the gearbox and exhaust, so they have now gone, so my engine is now resting on a 2"/4" plank of wood... i will be buying an engine hoist and cradle in the next week or so... then i will be able to remove the engine completely and give the engine bay a good clean...

then i need to buy a turbo fuel pump and get that plumbed in...

will update in a day or so...

how the car looks now

gearbox is out... and sold...

Image

disconnected the loom at the drivers footwell and seperated from the 2 thick wires...

Image

and fed the rest of the loom through the rear bulkhead

Image

now its resting on the top of the engine

Image

the next job was the gear selector cables, these come out really easy

and now im left off with a pile of junk...

im gonna polish every part i can to save time and when i can afford it, they will be powder coated green to go with the rest of my colour scheme...

i need to fit manifold and downpipe before the engine goes in aswell... then i need to fit exhaust system...also... i wanna buy an xs power intercooler with shroud and spal fan... and i have bought a turbo engine lid so im gonna buy a rogue fan kit...

then i need to buy hks ssqv dump valve and an apexi boost controler...

got quite a bit done today ready for the the arrival of my new engine

removed the engine bay fan from the drivers side,

removed a load of coolant hose and the ignitor from the engine bay,

fitted my new turbo engine lid

Image

Image

removed the fuel tank... but had a problem...

Image

i rounded this union off while trying to undo it, so.... i had to cut the pipe

Image

i am going to cut the fuel pipe on both sides of that union on the hard pipe part and repair it with some fuel hose double clipped on each end with some jubilee clips..

hopefully it will hold pressure, if not, i will have to get a new pipe from toyota..

heres the tank out

Image

more to come when my engine gets here

got my engine on tuesday, 1 day early... cheers larry93 :thumleft: your a top man!

Image

and there it is... now... on with the fitting.

done ecu and intercooler first..

Image
Image

then i hired an engine hoist.. only £15 :D

i lifted the car up with it first, to give me enough room to get the engine in underneath, then i put the engine on my crawler and rolled it under into the engine bay,
then i lowered the car over the engine, and lifted the engine into place..

FITTED 8)

i only managed to hook up half the electrics and half the fuel system and coolant system before it started to rain :( i was hoping to have it fired up by tonight, but never mind... will do that next week

i was going to do something similar as i had a fair whack saved up when i bought my 2, but then i spunked it all on bits and pieces. i don't think i could afford the fuel bills anymore anyway, lol.
keep up the hard work, and get some more pics posted, he he.
