Headunit problems
I bought a JVC MP3 player today from Halfords. The problem is I can't seem to get the old Goodman's player out coz 1) I don't have the right keys and 2) it's a very tight fit in the space. Are you supposed to remove the plastic surround when removing it? I have free fitting with the JVC so I'm taking it back to Halfords tomorrow and letting them do it for me. Halfords said that coz it's an import the wiring might be a mess so it could take a while to do .
Re: Headunit problems
You don't use 'keys' to slot in the sides of the stereo to remove it.
Unfortunately it's a dash out job:

Oh, and as you're taking it to Halfords I'd print that website above unless you want to risk them trying to figure out how the dash comes apart.

Re: Headunit problems
I went to halfords and they had no idea how to remove the original unit and stood there looking at it like this ... bless . So I came here for some sound advice (No pun intended ) and did it myself in about half an hour. Thank the lord for the IMOC!!! =D>
Re: Headunit problems
I've tried to do it myself but the problem is that the Goodman's player was poorly fitted, it sits tightly just in front of the plastic surround instead of behind it so I can't get the surround off without causing damage. Would I be better going to an audio specialist? Thing is I wanted to take advantage of the free fitting.
Re: Headunit problems
Just a thought mate.
When I bought my headunit, and I believe most are the same, it came with a surround that clips onto the front of the unit around the facsia after it's been installed correctly behind the console, i'm just wondering if they managed to clip it on, (mine wouldn't fit) so it looks like the unit is sticking out of the centre console when in actual fact it might just be the clip on surround.
Like I say, just a stab in the dark, but if you imagine the black surround on the player below clips on after installation, you should see what i'm getting at. (hopefully)

Yeah, mines the same
Re: Headunit problems
Well I managed to fit it and get it working today but the fascia plate is too large so the plastic surround is now pushed outwards slightly. Anyone know how much fascia plates cost?
