[Mk2] [Turbo] Alternator issues - wrong one fitted?

Post by rossonza »

So.... My cam cover leaked oil into my alternator which appears to have killed it.

Started removal today and I've got it out the car.

Whilst I was removing it I noticed someone's bodged the wiring to the plug on it.

A quick Google suggests that my car a jdm rev 2 turbo should have a round plugged alternator.

It looks like someone's ordered the wrong alternator for the rev. Then just changed the plug.

Any ideas what would be best to do from here?

1. Do I just order another oval plugged alternator off eBay for £90
2. Order round plug and round plugged alternator off eBay for similar price

Also. What amps am I looking for on the alternator?

Thanks a lot
Ross. :thumleft:

My 1993 Rev2 Turbo came with a 100 amp alternator and oval plug.

If you have power steering, then I recommend you try and get the 100 amp version.

Bought a factory jdm rev 2 turbo one and it doesnt fit. The mounting holes are too close together. Quick Google suggests there is 2 variations. 6mm difference in hole.spacing supposedly. So I'm looking to rebuild my old one now.

Are you sure you bought the 100amp version? The 100amp version has the largest housing of the alternators.

Pretty sure it's the lower amp one...

I've decided to rebuild mine. Will make a thread with pics
