[Mk2] [Turbo] Does removing the 15A EFI fuse prevent injectors from firing?

Anything to do with the electrics of the car.

[Mk2] [Turbo] Does removing the 15A EFI fuse prevent injectors from firing?

Post by Danbob »

I've always removed the 15A EFI and 7.5A ECU-IG fuses from the engine bay fuel box any time I wanted to crank the engine without it firing.

I always assumed the EFI fuse would prevent injectors from firing and the ECU-IG fuse would prevent spark.

However I've noticed when I crank the engine with these fuses pulled I can smell fuel.

Has anybody got confirmation one way or the other if the injectors will still fire if these fuses are pulled?

I'm having to crank the engine a lot at the moment trying to get my ECU to sync up, and I don't want to be pumping fuel down my bores all the time

Cheers

AFAIK it does on an OEM setup, as removing the EFI fuse disables the ECU.

Looking at the wiring diagram, whilst the circuit opening relay switches the fuel pump on, the actual power feed passes through the EFI main relay first. So pulling the EFI fuse should also disable the fuel pump.
