Head gasket trouble again

Hi,

Head blew again between 3&4.

1) Does anyone know if the ca 3 mm diameter coolant holes in the block that point in between the cylinders are supposed to be blind or should there be a flow through them?

2) What is the size of the crankshaft/oil pump oil seal, presumably this can be prised out without removing the oil pump?

If I got a long drill , could I run it all the way through? How much difference does it actually make?
