MK2 ECUs

Post by toxo »

Having a bit of a clearout. I've got:

UK Rev2 3SGE 89661-17370
Image

UK Rev3 3SGE 89661-17500
Image

UK Rev4 3SGE 89661-17550
Image

The rev3 one is the one you need if you are transplanting a late 3SGE from a car with an immobiliser into an older car without an immobiliser.

£40 + £5 delivery each

I also have a UK Rev2 Fan controller module, 89257-17020 if that's of any interest to anyone.

Nah leaky caps is pretty much it, and when they go bad it's obvious. I can bring it to JAE if you like and you can try it?

Are they definitely compatible? The Rev4 and Rev5 EU part numbers are different - http://japan-parts.eu/toyota/eu/1997/mr ... stem#89661

I'll go with.... reasonably confident lol. If they are different they won't be *very* different. If we struggle I'll pop the tops off and compare pinouts as I'll have both of them in front of me.

There are 2 different ECUs in the ST205 for example which have mildly different part numbers (+30 or so) which are functionally the same and just have very minor code revisions in. But then again the rev3 to rev4 NA ECUs that go from 17500 to 17550 add immobiliser and move the IGF pin. Easy to spot but a bigger change so a bigger jump in part numbers.

The immobiliser will be interesting too. I've got detailed wiring diagrams and system documentation for Toyotas of the same era with TVSS but not the MR2. There is a belief that on cars with the later immobiliser (ECU ends 550 or higher) that the ignition key is paired with the ECU. I've seen this in a number of threads on this forum for example. However other TVSS cars have an immobiliser ECU somewhere in the car which is the part paired with the key. The inductive ring in the ignition barrel picks up the transponder in the key and transmits that via a signal amplifier to the immobiliser ECU and if the immobiliser ECU is happy with it it sends a continuous pulse signal to the ECU to say "all is good, continue running". Take the key away, signal stops, engine stops. I know the TVSS MR2s have an immobiliser ECU so I suspect they work exactly the same way and that the ECU is not tied to the ignition key at all.

We shall see :D

I can confirm that the key is NOT paired with the ECU on a Rev5. I swapped my ECU for another Rev5 one, no issues at all.

In fact, with the Gen3 Turbo swap it is behaving like it is still immobilised... Not sure how to test without either getting a blank key cut or removing the transponder though.

The central locking and the immobiliser are not linked.

Yep, it's the same control unit in all Toyota's of the era (TVSS IIIB?) so it makes sense it's the same as the rest.
