oh and i just realised that s this thread is the oldest thread in existence thats still going it has a pic of our newly born (now almost 2) daughter, so i better include a quick pic of the new one.. 3 week old Poppy!

At least this way when they are looking me up on the internet in years to come they will see that i was at least fair and equal with them both!

wow, i really am smashing my average post per year at the moment.

Upgraded (mk2) ARB installed today, utilising the infamous "No Bull S*&^" mounts ala Adam over on TB...

Actually on the Mk1b i could have just utilised the normal holes and some mk2 brackets as it all lined up wit the existing holes but i decided to break the welder out anyway to get the job done!

I also installed the passenger door rubber... basically the car is water tight (well kind of) for the first time in about 5 years!!!

I'm still wresting with whether to paint it myself or not but i did start to think about what i would need to assemble to get it through an MOT... i don't think its much.

Another scintillating update:

I had the headlight cages shot blasted:

Satin Black:

Have to say they look like new!

I'm a little annoyed with myself though as i have a couple of sets of these and i must have used a cage off another car because after painting i noticed that someone had drilled out 2 of the weld nuts!

Image

I might just be able to use a normal nut on assembly but i also have loads of weld nuts so i might just tack some new ones on and re paint.

I honestly think those are my other half's favourite part of the car  If it hadn't had pop up lights there's a good chance she might not have been quite so easy about me buying one to fix up in the first place! :D

Haha, they are funny creatures!

In an attempt to get her involved in my hobby i lured her outside to see the wonder of a pop up headlight.

She was less than impressed however did comment on how she liked the noise that they made ](*,) ](*,)

I do take pleasure in reminder her that i had the car before she came along so in terms of sentimental value it out ranks her!

I've been told by SWMBO that she feels like a car widow already...started just a day after I'd bought it lol! She has said that she thinks its pretty though, she likes the retro styling as well as the lights so that's something. She's even helping out taking photos of everything to document progress etc which is a bonus when you've mucky hands and don't want to feck up your own camera  I'm just working my way through your rebuild thread to hopefully help me on my journey - look forward to maybe seeing your car at a future meet once its all finished as I'm sure it'll look great 8)

Thanks mark.. yep fingers crossed she turns out to a gathering at some point in the future!

Well the little jobs continue... shiny black, well satin actually but you know what i mean, refurbed headlight cage things!

Note the ditching of the chrome bezel.. i just sanded back, primer and then painted it the same black. much prefer it.

Image

just hunting some suitable springs and then they will be popped in the pop up cage... let there be light at the weekend!

Well for all of you that have been staring at the screen for the last year waiting for the next instalment..... here it is.

The car has a new home... i've taken the plunge and rented lock up. Its not much bigger than my garage but most importantly is 30m from the front door of the guy who is going to be painting it for me in the next month or so... i've already stumped up half the cash so this is definite progress!

Image

He has done some work for me before and i have seen loads of cars that he has done so fingers crossed it comes out ok... despite my previous attempts he will be flatting it back, sorting the remains bits of body work, bar coat, high build, base and anti scratch clear... not to mention the polish. He's going to be putting it on his web site so fingers crossed that drives him to do those additional extras that will make it mint.

Just off to screw fix to get shelves! Got to love a lock up.

I'll try and get some better pictures at the weekend... it coming out of the container for its final polish.

List of jobs..

Re attach all painted parts (spoiler, headlight cover, side vent, petrol cap)
Swap gearbox over
New wheel studs - need longer ones
Sort Exhaust
Fit new T bar rubbers
Re fit all interior (need to source a few bits i think)
One headlight to go in
