PS3 controllers for first person shooters

Post by Phill P »

Hi All

I've just purchased a PS3 which comes with GT5 and need for speed as guess what, I likes me racing games, also got a logitech wheel a little while ago so that part of things is sorted.
However I like first person shooters as I used to play Halflife/DOD/Counterstrike etc on the pc.

Now I'm used to using a mouse and I'm a bit poop with the normal ps3 controllers and was wondering if anyone knows of anything that would fit the bill. I'm aware that I can get a keyboard and mouse for the ps3 but I'm unsure if this would work with the games, I've read up on something called Fragnstein and Splitfish.

The reviews are not always that good, although the you tube replys are entertaining as they do seem to be made by 14 year olds.

Any help would be welcome.

Cheers Paul

Going from k&m to joypad for FPS games is a nightmare at first, but the best suggestion is just to stick with the stock pad until you're comfortable with it. I gave up PC gaming at the time Bioshock was released and whilst it was an awkward transition, it was also the best thing I ever did, I wouldn't want to go back now.

stock is best IMO

there a few specialist controllers out there for shooters but most are just gimmicky like having extra buttons under the controller etc

GT5 is just GT4 with better graphics... Just way too smooth for my liking! ](*,)

Ok, first things first, I once tried a shooter on a PC with a keyboard and mouse and thought it was, tbh, the most ridiculous idea ever. There's so many keys on a keyboard and the mouse is an entirely different object to hold + you need to have something to put both of them on to use.

The next time I tried to play a shooter was on a console. And at first it felt alien as I'd never played one before. But after a while everything felt natural and now I cant honestly say anything else would really be better other than some kind of VR system!

Although something I will say - the Xbox 360 controller is MUCH nicer for shooters than the PS3 controller. Actually it's much nicer for everything tbh.

Sure, much like you cant beat holding a real gun up to some ones head. But in the real world that's not always possible

IE you dont always have a decent base in order to put a keyboard and mouse on.

Exactly the same reason a wheel has never appealed to me.

Although some have lap bases and I like Laurens idea with the ironing board lol.

But still, no thanks. Not that much of a race game fan either.

If there was an option to use a keyboard with a mouse on the PS3, I would have 20 times Prestiged.

Now I'm gonna stay with 2 times Prestige.

Mouse is so much faster and accurate.

You actually can use a keyboard and mouse on the PS3...
I think it was supported by um... one of the Unreal tournament games?
And I think that's it. Handy, I know.

One reason why I REALLY can't play FPS games on a console...

Auto-aim.

Takes the skill straight out of the game :( Anyhow, I still have to play Halo 3 on the XBOX 360 and will simply make do with the standard controller as I'm sure that auto-aim will help.

P.s. Using a keyboard and mouse is heaven compared to controllers. I use the arrow keys to strafe, move fwd and back, Ctrl to jump, 0 (Keypad) to duck and keypad 1 to reload. Lots of other keys right there for grenades etc. Recently had fun with Bulletstorm and am now on Metro 2033

This is an old thread but I thought I would update it a little.

Had the ps3 for a little while now and have played black ops and now Bf3,now whilst I'm just playing the normal game everything is fine, get onto multiplayer and I'm getting a bit of a pasting.

So I got a splitfish fx v2,read loads of reviews on a few of these and its 50/50.

Some love it to bits and it would seem the diehard 14 year olds believe it to be the spawn of satan ,and that I should be shot for daring to not use gods creation the sixaxis .

I can see why now,all of a sudden I can aim and shoot again like the old days.
Best £25 I've spent for a long time, If your an ex pc gamer and would love to improve on your ps3 or xbox get one.

May get flamed for this as for me it gives an advantage over other players (in my mind anyway),bit like having a steering wheel maybe....got one too  ,although for racing games I'm ok with a sixaxis.

No more getting shot, well alot less than before anyway.
