Painting the cam cover of a Mk1
by Jamie Ayres

1. Remove spark plug leads
2. Unattach throttle cable (twist pulley and pull cable from notch)
3. Remove throttle pulley assembly (remove three bolts and then pull small connecting rod from ball joint)
4. Remove centre black panel (six bolts I think although two of them are already removed cos of the throttle pulley assembly)
5. Remove chrome nuts and metal/rubber washers for cam covers

You\'ll most likely need a plastic mallet and a lot of patience to get the covers off but they will come off eventually!

Use an electric sander for the most of the covers to get a decent surface to paint onto and then use engine lacquer or brake caliper lacquer to paint them. The paint will go a slightly darker colour when it\'s dried!

Use the sander again to tidy up the letters on the top and Robert is you mum\'s bro!

Replacement is the reverse of the above.

It\'s worth getting a second set of covers to paint up and then just do the swap over... that way you can spend a few days making sure they are painted properly.
