Hiya guys. This is my first how to guide, so bare with me. Thought I would submit this because when or if you need to replace your alternator this might save you messing around for two hours when doing the job, like me and my mate did!

Just to bare in mind, this is how to do it if the engine is still in the car, not if the the engine has been dropped out, \'cos then it\'d be a doddle!

Now, not to slag off any other mr2 enthusiasts websites, but I was following a guide on one of them and it wasn\'t that great, it said you have to remove the alternator bracket in order to remove the alternator from the engine bay, when really there is no need at all! This way is so much easier, it also helps if you have another pair of hands (cheers rich)

Also bare in mind anyone who doesn\'t know, non turbo alternators don\'t fit turbos, they\'re a different size, which I nearly found out the hard way by someone nearly ripping me off, which wasn\'t very nice!

Anyway, here goes:

• Disconnect battery.
• Jack car up, support with axel stands.
• Pop the engine bay lid, remove drivers side inspection panel.
• Next remove the alternator tensioning bolt (long one) from the top of alternator (12mm)
• Unbolt the earth wire from back of alternator (13mm)
• Unplug the connecter next to it, now this is where you need to check if it\'s an oval connection, or circular, this matters when ordering your replacment.
• Next undo the bottom bolt (14mm) which runs all way through bottom of alternator. (it helps to remove the drivers side rear wheel to do this, gives easy access to the bolt)
• Right it\'s free now, wiggle it out, then put it to one side somewhere in engine bay.
• This bits a pain, buts it\'s the only way you can do it to get alternator out.. remove the backbox and flexi section of the exhaust, then the alternator will pull straight out then, easy!!
• Then to re-install, do the reverse of all that.

Hope this helps lads..it\'ll save much time believe me!
