\\Mk2 service schedules and information\\

Everything we do, from our initial research and design through to the high technology production engineering and final quality control, is done with only you in mind. We aim, above all, to give you what you need and want because, as a Toyota owner, you are part of the Toyota family and our valued customer.

\Ceremony of the Keys\

When you collect your Toyota after a service or repair, you are sure to want to know exactly what’s been done, how the invoice was made up and, especially as mileage increases, what items might need attention before or at the next service

That’s why your Toyota Dealer will need a few minutes of your time to carry out our “Ceremony of the Keys Handover Procedure”, which you will find detailed in this booklet. Their Service Advisor will present the invoice, tell you what has been done and how the charges are made up. Please feel free to ask for clarification on any points you might not understand.

He will also ask you to complete a simple after-service follow-up questionnaire within a few days of your visit, to enable his Dealer Principal to judge how well they are satisfying their customers. Your comments are invaluable and are acted upon.

\Maintenance recommendations\

This service record booklet covers the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI), first service at 600 miles and the 12 months/6,000 miles service intervals up to 132,000 miles. The first service at 600 miles is free of charge. The following 12 months/6,000 miles services are fully chargeable. After each service, the vehicle service record in this book must be stamped by the Servicing Dealer, thereby indicating the next service required. Please follow the oil recommendations as shown on page 17 of this booklet. If your vehicle is operated under severe conditions, such as continual stop-start driving or in a very dusty climate or for very short distances we recommend the following additional items:-

(a) Replace engine oil and filter at 6 months or 3,000 mile intervals.
(b) Inspect air cleaner regularly and replace every 12 months or 12,000 miles.
(c) Grease the prop shaft(s) and chassis grease points weekly on all Hi-Lux vehicles operating under wet or muddy conditions.
(d) Low mileage vehicles will benefit from a “short” service every 6 months. Please refer to your Toyota Dealer for advice.

It is most important to ensure that the engine coolant concentration is maintained at the correct level and is regularly checked in accordance with the service schedule.

For topping up, Toyota Forlife (a combined anti-freeze and corrosion inhibitor) is recommended.

Brake fluid absorbs moisture. Therefore we recommend that the brake fluid is changed every two years.

To keep your Toyota operating at optimum performance and economy, we recommend that you also regularly take advantage of the electronic diagnostic facilities available at all Toyota Dealers/

\CAREFUL MAINTENANCE WILL ENSURE RELIABLE AND ENJOYABLE MOTORING.\

\Items which should be regularly checked\

1. Engine oil level.
2. Engine coolant level.
3. Battery electrolyte level.
4. Brake and clutch fluid levels.
5. Operation of headlights, sidelights, indicators and stop lights.
6. Operation of windscreen wipers, washers and fluid level.
7. Tyres for damage and tyre pressures (including spare wheel).
8. Run air conditioning monthly.

\NOTE.\ AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS
Air conditioning can be used for cooling the vehicle interior and to provide dehumidifying heating. Please refer to the owner’s manual for instructions on how to obtain maximum benefits. The system should be operated, for a short period, monthly to prevent sticking of internal moving parts.

\Care of leather seats and trim\

To maintain the appearance and suppleness of the leather upholstery and trim we recommend that it is cleaned and treated with a leather “food” every 6 months. Consult your Toyota Dealer for advice.

\Long term safety maintenance\

Over a period of time, the durability of certain items reduces. We therefore recommend that the following items be replaced at 4 yearly intervals:-

1. Brake master cylinder cap, valve and boot.
2. Brake wheel cylinder cap and dust seal and brake hoses.
3. Brake booster master kit and vacuum hose.
4. Fuel hoses and power steering hoses.
5. Wheel bearing grease, front suspension arm bushing grease, steering knuckle grease, drag link grease, centre arm bracket grease and all other chassis grease points (where applicable).
6. Engine coolant (after flushing cooling system), using Toyota “Forlife” (a combined antifreeze and corrosion inhibitor).

These recommendations are additional to the items contain within the service schedules and as they are safety related, we strongly advise that you consult your local Toyota Dealer who will be pleased to give you a quotation.

\Engine oil\

Most commercially available oils are acceptable provided they meet API, SF or SG (Petrol) or API, CC and CD (Diesel) standards. Viscosity grades are 10W/40, 5W/40, 5W/50 or 20W/50. Please refer to your owner’s manual or Toyota Dealer for more detailed information.
